No-load linear 250K pots

well, what are they for? :confused:

you could likely use regular 500k or even 1meg linears, depending on what you're doing with them.

the problem with no-loads for volumes is that they make noise at the transition.

as for making your own, that actually works just fine, but there's a much easier way: just get one of these at the hobby shop

I wouldn't want to use a no-load as a volume control.
A volume control needs all three terminals of the pot connected with input, output and ground to function properly. When you scrape away the resistive band, you get an infinite resistance from terminal one to terminal three.
The pot would lose it's connection with either the output or the ground.

FWIW, I use 500K pots with push/pull bypasses, and though the difference is not quite as pronounced as with 250K pots, there is definitely a difference between "10" and bypassed if the volume control is on full.

I can't speak for 1M pots because I have never tried them, but switching to a 500K pot instead of a 250K no-load is a poor solution IMO.
