I used to hate red basses. Then in '94 I found a good deal on a used Gibson Les Paul bass in Heritage Cherry. But I didn't really like it, and sold it soon thereafter. Years later my stance softened, and I've since had several red basses. I don't have a pic of the Les Paul, but here are 3 that I've owned:

Had a red Aria Pro II Cat bass back in '88.
But I prefer natural dark wood finished basses.
I'm just not a "Red" personality.

I personally find red to be one of the most passionate colors for musical instruments, especially the darker (Dakota Red and down) and the elegant metallic shades of it. It is indeed a shame Fender does not offer red in their American-made lines.

Fortunately, Fender Custom Shop offers any color you like.

I only like red basses when they have a dark pickguard (black pearloid, black or any shade of dark grey)

I typically avoid any colors and stick to black basses, but recently the Race Red Squier PJ caught my eye. It was the most vibrant-colored bass in the store, and I liked how it looked with the black pickguard.

Added some creme Dimarzio PJs and it's definitely the nicest-looking bass I have! It's not a typical red, and I haven't seen any other basses that have it. I like it! It's hard to capture the exact color in a photo, in pictures it ranges from tangerine to the color you see here. In person it's a bit brighter than Fiesta Red with a little pink hue

I wonder how it would look with a pair of these: Large Fluted MXR Style, Colors in cream.
