I love red basses, my absolutely favorite color and I have only 1 red one. I guess I haven't done my share to contribute to their continuance; I just buy what is available. I have 9 basses and I'd gladly have them all be red (well, clear poly/oiled wood on the real nice one). You guys who are posting pics are gonna make me do something stupid- I am NO painter.

I typically avoid any colors and stick to black basses, but recently the Race Red Squier PJ caught my eye. It was the most vibrant-colored bass in the store, and I liked how it looked with the black pickguard.

Added some creme Dimarzio PJs and it's definitely the nicest-looking bass I have! It's not a typical red, and I haven't seen any other basses that have it. I like it! It's hard to capture the exact color in a photo, in pictures it ranges from tangerine to the color you see here. In person it's a bit brighter than Fiesta Red with a little pink hue

I have a 69 P that was refinished years ago natural. It's got a rosewood board / maple neck. I am considering a candy apple red re-refinish, coupled with a period correct black PG. It was originally sunburst. I am also considering a blondie refinish (oly with gold PG), or even Bk/Wh or just taking it back to original, which is probably the most sensible choice. I had a candy apple red jazz CS 66 relic with a bound rosewood neck with pearloid block inlays. I liked that bass a lot. I'm not an indecisive person, but this is a tough call. I'm leaning blonde.

I've got a red Highway in (1?) jazz in semigloss red. I was told it was the last Highway one jazz in GC's inventory system wide when it was ordered, so apparently red was not that popular in semigloss lacquer either. I like it well enough, but i've got anothed Highway one in black i like better.

Fender still offers candy apple red on their Standard Ps, but like you, I'm surprised they don't offer a nice red on their American Pro basses.
I dig the new Olive Green color (and really like the new Sonic Grey - wish they offered it on the P), but I'd like to see red, and maybe the return of Aztec Gold or Shoreline Gold.

Last calendar year EBMM was making basses in "chili red" but I see it's no longer a choice on their online 2017 bass making "schedgeyule" so to speak. If you're not hip to buying used yet I'd suggest getting in tune with it. I really like the "no longer made" cabernet red that EBMM once made at a certain point in time. Quite similar to candy apple red only even cooler. :cool:
