If the genzler were 4 band it would be a better substitute but I'm sure its great.

Little subway is good but no sweepable mids for me, is a downside.

It has a low mid and a high mid and a “voicing”knob. I’m following it up with an Oracle into a PF50T. If I can’t find what I want, I guess it’s time for a Miracle Ear…

I've the the mesa gear for a long time. Very familiar. The + version adds variable hpf, sweepable mids.

Wondering how impractical it would be to pick up a Subway D-800 + amp and simply use it as a DI. If the need calls for driving a speaker or monitor, it can do that too...

I have the Subway+ and I really like it. An unsung feature is that it will run off a 9v battery. Also it’s got two XLR outputs, one mic level and one line level, with the line level one the only one affected by the master volume. Very thoughtful and practical design by @agedhorse.

Get a profiler or a Quad Cortex. Find your subway and capture it. Sell it. Then find the next preamp so seek. Capture it. Then sell it. Rinse and repeat until you've owned everything under the sun and have extremely accurate profiles of them at your disposal. Every night I play I switch from a Noble to a B15 to a Kern IP77 to an SVT to an Alembic to an Eden WT800 to an SWR sm400.... You get the idea.

Side note, I've got plenty of subway profiles but don't seem to really ever end up picking them.

Just as my quest for THE preamp/DI was coming to its peak, and I discovered that I really really liked and wanted to buy the Mesa Subway + DI....it's not produced anymore, and the secondhand market seems empty.....sigh sigh sigh..... this was a couple of weeks ago, and I bought an Aguilar DB925 instead (no DI).

Now I can't stop lusting for the Mesa and although the DB925 is in fact a killer pedal in itself, I'm thinking of making the jump and selling it off while I patiently wait for a Subway+ pre to come along....

The pedals are not discontinued, we just haven't built them in a while because of all the supply chain issues affecting getting our other products built. I think may be another run of pedals scheduled in a couple of months.

You mean this guy? I found one used last year, they do pop up if you wait. FWIW, it’s not the greatest DI ever or anything. It’s good, but for the price I was very surprised that it’s a plastic box. It’s not as impressive as the Noble DI. It’s good, just nothing to go nuts about wanting.

To be clear, it's not a plastic box. It's 0.100" (2.5mm) thick 6061-T6 structural aluminum. I already received a PM asking me if I was crazy building a pedal with a plastic case... now I know where this rumor started.

Not impractical at all, plenty of guys are doing this already, and especially with the D-350.

Well it’s not very heavy and it sounds great.

I have owned the Subway + but went back to the regular Subway DI. The Subway + seemed a little over the top for me. I wanted it for the Effects Loop option and the ability to Mute my signal. Too bad they did not offer a blend knob for the loop, so that was a killer, along with its enormous size. The small one fits perfectly in my Gator GigCase

The Genzler Magellan Preamp has two different adjustable contour settings, vintage and modern, whereas the Mesa has one adjustable setting for 'vintage scoop'. I'm wondering how the character of the Mesa Vintage contour compares to the Genzler vintage contour. I've heard the Genzler and really liked the vintage tone, curious how it compares to the Mesa vintage tone. TIA
