I think the Genzler preamp will sound like the Genzler Magellan amps and the Mesa preamp oddly enough will sound like Mesa D and D+ equipment.

Thing is, I’ve never used a Mesa amp. Anyway, I found a demo online of the Mesa and the vintage tone just sounds like a boost, whereas the Genzler vintage tone is more like a warm valve sound, from what I can tell.

You mean this guy? I found one used last year, they do pop up if you wait. FWIW, it’s not the greatest DI ever or anything. It’s good, but for the price I was very surprised that it’s a plastic box. It’s not as impressive as the Noble DI. It’s good, just nothing to go nuts about wanting.

That was never really made explicitly clear until now. Online retailers listed the product as no longer available.

I hope this supply chain stuff gets worked out someday. I hate to say it the world has not learned much from the current situation and will continue to depend on the same suppliers.

You are not the only one who would like this to be over. A preferred part I was researching shows a 60 week lead time, fortunately we have enough in stock to get us by but that was a reminder that things are nowhere near normal yet.

Just as my quest for THE preamp/DI was coming to its peak, and I discovered that I really really liked and wanted to buy the Mesa Subway + DI....it's not produced anymore, and the secondhand market seems empty.....sigh sigh sigh..... this was a couple of weeks ago, and I bought an Aguilar DB925 instead (no DI).

Now I can't stop lusting for the Mesa and although the DB925 is in fact a killer pedal in itself, I'm thinking of making the jump and selling it off while I patiently wait for a Subway+ pre to come along....

I imagine it wasn’t a great seller. I love the mesa subway series. But Mesa released so many subway amps that a couple years ago when I bought mine there were already 4 different subway heads (d800, d800+,tw800, TT800) . This made the d-800 and d-800+ amps very easy to find used for a while for near the same cost of the subway new DI+. And that’s why I bought the head instead. Because the price was so close and the amp only weighs 5 lbs so it was a no brainer.

I agree, but I'm not sure what the root cause is. I've heard many different reasons some of which negate each other.

In my industry certain vendors have finally shifted away from suppliers. And here is where I say the quiet part out loud...certain counties/cultures were more risk adverse even pre pandemic when it came to the spread of illnesses. Companies in our industry who have moved away from those suppliers are doing better with lead times.

You keep calling out TB…and while TB is no Mecca for truth, this is not a TB issue but an internet issue. Everyone is a self appointed expert and everything they say is fact. Just like me and this post

Just keep your eyes peeled for one. They do become available. I bought a Subway+ pre a week ago and have been looking for a while. I previously had a Mesa Rosette pre which I really liked for piezo bass and my acoustic/electric nylon and steel guitars but stupidly sold it a few years ago. I got lucky finding another Rosette recently.

The Subway+ pre is everything you all say about it. Pretty amazing piece of kit. After playing around with it a bit this week, it is giving me everything I wanted. Lots of control and really warms up the tone nicely, as well as more focus when desired. Love the built-in HPF. Although either one of these could probably do the trick overall for me, the Subway+ provides more fullness and warmth for electric bass and the Rosette does such a great job on piezo fretless and acoustic/electric guitars. I'll be keeping both. Nicely done Mesa and @agedhorse!
