i emailed rondo to ask about a short scale SX p bass i was interested in, and he emailed me back that they are currently in the process of purging all SX basses from our inventory.

does anyone else sell SX basses?

A few years back, the Big Companies were buying up the factories of former suppliers like Saein (Shine) which made the Douglas brand for Rondo as well as a variety of Epiphones, Ibanez, Squier and such in both Korea and China. It could be the SX factory has been bought.

considering how much their inventory has dropped in the past few years, maybe Rondo is going to leave the business?

Rondo makes a lot of money on Agile guitars, most specifically those 8 string behemoths. There's really not much profit on a $189 bass.
You've got Glarry (although I suspect there will never be another SX at that quality/price point).

They still have shorties listed on their website, but if he’s not going to restock, it’s buy what’s left.
I’m interested on that lake placid blue one, but with my finances I have to move one to buy one or face the Wrath. ;)

they are only selling them till they run out.
I’ve noticed the atrophy of their basses(and certain guitars)over the last few years. You should check guitarfetish.com but there’s not a whole lot of variety; however, they offer a lot of affordable parts options at a decent build quality for the money. I wonder if older SX will become collectible?:smug:

the thing is, i have shoulder issues, and as a result, many basses cause me pain to play - even ones almost identical to those that don't hurt. the SX short scale fretless p bass i just got is the most comfortable bass for my shoulder, so i wanted to buy a fretted version. alas, they only have the jazz versions. ah, well...

Sadly not what you are exactly looking for but

Still many sold from other companies and shops on Reverb.

I had the chance to try SX, seen a lot in GC when I would go in. They would get bought quick. Only bass of theres I really like though was this neon green jazz simply because of the cool color. A lot of other cool models but most of them weren't production anymore like their Semi-hollow body.

I do like Rondo's acoustic 7 string guitar, and their Uke basses are cool. Haven't looked in a bit though tbh.

@pcake , I’ll be sure to keep a lookout online for a used one. I see them quite often. Especially in the classifieds here .

On another note , it sure would be good to see your bass collection . Especially your short scales .

SX gear is crap, guys. C'mon. My guitarist had a PJ affair which had the dodgiest looking ash for the body, pickup routing you could fit your mum in, a really fat neck that felt hollow, dead spots everywhere, hardware made out of tin. I also believe one of the fret markers had caved in. These days, you can get Harley Benton instruments that cost even less sometimes and are certainly better made.

What I miss is those BaCH mahogany basses that used to ship out of Czech Republic. Those were actually nice.
