No sound

I just picked up a Ibanez SR300 DX that i got off of a barter, got it home, plugged it in and it made a small sound and faded out and never made another sound. i took the back plate off and found out that is was active electronics...so i thought that the battery was bad (which it was because it was corroded) so i put a new battery in.....and still not a sound. i have checked all the solder joints and i cant find anything wrong. any suggestions? i really am trying to fix this on my own without taking it to a shop. oh and also when i went to get the old battery out; it was so corroded that it broke off the end that is on the 9 volt part that is on the bass...if that makes sense...so i replaced it with one i had on a old pedal i had lying around, would that have something to do with it?

I would go to radio shack and buy a 9V plug with leads and replace that old one. Wires could be so corroded that no juice is getting thru. I'd do that before I go to the shop. Are you sure your amp is good? do you have another bass to test it to ensure the amp and output cable is satisfactory?

you got a multimeter?

Yeah, the corroded battery probably ruined the battery clip. So you need to replace that. If that has a battery box, you will probably need to replace that, unless it uses clip.

This is one reason to never use a carbon zinc or heavy duty battery in a bass. They tend to leak when they get old.

Always try out basses through an amp before trading or buying.
