Noble Amps Preamp

From what I’ve understood, fully clockwise is dry at 50%. This is a screenshot from their manual for parallell compression:

thanks.

that's interesting because in the manual that came with my Cali76CB, for the parallel compression sample setting, the DRY control is shown at ~ 11:00. What's additionally interesting is that when you look at the Origin Effects website online, the current version of the sample settings for the Cali76CB show the DRY control at ~ 1:00.

so, Origin Effects ... which is it ?

Before I purchase one of these it will run off the 9v hookup on my Noble?

yes it will. My Noble came with the 18v cable (uses one 9v power port and somehow doubles it with resistors along the cable ?), and the Cali76 definitely seems to like the higher voltage .. gives you more headroom.

I'd suggest getting the 18v cable from Jack Roan at Noble, its well worth whatever it might cost (can't be much).

any consensus from you more experienced Cali76CB users on which way the DRY control works .... as in fully DRY is
A) fully clockwise
B) fully counter-clockwise

I'm inclined to think full Dry is fully clockwise, but wanted to be sure.

My understanding is (and it could be wrong), that the DRY control is not a mix or blend control (of compressed signal and dry signal). It is the amount of dry signal passed to the output. The OUT level is the amount of compressed level passed to the output. So if you want parallel compression, it would be an equal amount (roughly) of each signal going to the output. That would also explain the varying positions of the DRY knob in different photos explaining parallel compression.

well, I'm totally willing to accept your understanding of this .. but then I would expect all the examples to show the Dry and Out controls to be in about the same position (?) ... and they are not at all like that.
In my manual: Dry = 11:00, Out = 12:00 (so at least close to your theory)
In the Origin Effects Sample Settings: Dry = 2:00(ish), Out = 12:00 (way off)
Blue Swedes manual: Dry = 5:00 (fully clockwise), Out = 1:00 (even more way off)

in any event, it's certainly a very nice compressor.

and now, back to our regularly scheduled Noble discussion ....

Does anyone know anything about the 3 knob Cali76 compact version compressor? I’m thinking about getting that one if it is still a good compressor for bass?

I think the HPF on the CB makes it a better choice for bass

That's from the manual I pulled online. It's a separate dry to add back to the signal. It's not a blend. Think of it like you would parallel processing it on the desk: one fader is your bass, the other is a return channel with the compressor on it.

Jeez this has morphed into a thread about compressors. My compressor is the large black box just to left of the Noble and the tuner.
yeah, sorry. I posted the Dry control question in the FX forum and got no replies. I know a number of Noble users are running Cali76 comps, so I thought I would post here. Guess what, I got an answer.

FWIW, I also heard back from Origin very promptly ... here's what they said ......... good to know. I'll also post this in the FX forum with my OP.

Thanks for your email! If you were to turn the output of the pedal all the way down (to the left) and turn the dry control all the way to the right, you would be hearing an uncompressed dry through signal.

I would start by setting up your desired compression settings and then dial the dry control to the right to bring in more of your dry signal - parallel compression!

I hope this was useful!

Regards,
Adam

yes, now I understand (a bit better anyway). I was thinking of the Dry control as more of a Blend. Now I know
