Noble Amps Preamp

The Genzler is very flat with tone controls in flat position. I use my Noble direct into the instrument input, and compared... no difference to my ears. However, through the front you also can use the drive, and other tone shaping abilities on the fly. Try it... you may like it!
yep, stacking EQ's/pre's can really be great if you use a little restraint with the knobs. Thats how I am currently using my Noble for live work, right into the input on my Mesa WD800 with very modest EQ settings on the WD800.

So far, the only FX Return that I have liked with the Noble is the Mesa Walkabout .. where you are getting the influence of the Walkabouts tube driver for its power section ... now that was a good tone

I have some time on my hands today so I think I will pull out some less used amps and see how the Noble works with them ... Fender Studio Bass and Ampeg SVT6pro. Both are very voiced amps to begin with, so it will be interesting.

So what have Noble users using Compressor wise with their Nobles that seem to work good?

Ive been using an FEA de-cl, very clean and quiet, also great to have a compressor & a limiter at your disposal in a very small footprint.

To try something new I bought a cali76 big box with iron core transformer (tx) which will arrive on wednesday, will report back on that.

I got the ebs multicomp and its great. I prefer multiband compression. Plus i like the simplicity of it.

It doesnt get squashy unless you crank it up. But it brings out the low mids really well, thickens things up and keeps the signal a little more steady for my synthy pedals.

I used to have the ebs multicomp and really liked the multiband setting, mine was first gen though and got a bit noisy towards the end. At one point I used it in conjunction with a markbass compressore, It got real tight and funky :cool:

How does the Cali76 Compact compressor stack up to the other more expensive ones.

Well, at $329 USD, I wouldn’t exactly call the Cali76 CBC inexpensive. :) I can’t believe there would be many more expensive pedal-format compressors out there. Which ones were you referring to?

I'm using the Cali76CB with my Noble as well. I have used compression in my signal chain for a long time, but mostly using simpler 2 knob comps (most recently EBS Multicomp and the BBE Octo). I really like the Cali76CB, besides the actual compression function, it seems to me like it provides some tone impact .. brightness? air? something ... but I have only had it for a few weeks and am still working on dialing it in.

In that regard, I'd like to ask the other Cali76CB users here to clue me in on the DRY control. I understand what it does, but I'm not at all sure how its calibrated as far as Dry/Wet and am having some confusion getting to unity gain.
Which way is fully DRY (just my bass signal) on the control ... fully clockwise, or fully counterclockwise ??

your help will be greatly appreciated.

From what I’ve understood, fully clockwise is dry at 50%. This is a screenshot from their manual for parallell compression:
