Noble Amps Preamp

Perfect. There's worse things than Sam Adams.

Not my usual choice, but a friend of mine turned me on to their Winter Lager a couple years ago and I'll pick up a pack during the season. That's the only thing I drink from them. I'm a porter or a stout guy all the way, especially one that has been done well with an aging in a bourbon barrel. Stone has their Xocovesa that they come out with every season and that one finds a regular rotation in my fridge. I also have a fair amount of local craft brewers nearby, one of which is Garage Brewing that usually has a chocolate orange stout, a coffee stout, or something else really good. Their Marshmallow Milk Stout is one if my absolute favorites. IPA's do not ever grace my beer archives. I don't like pine needles mixed with earwax

Hey everyone, i hope you are having a great holiday season :)

My noble should arrive around mid january and I wanted to to build a small travel pedalboard once it arrives.
I've been thinking about a pedaltrain metro 20, but I'm not so sure which kind of case would be the best. They offer it with a soft case, hard case and a more solid tour case.

Which one would you recommend? Would i risk breaking the tubes/damaging the noble by using only the soft case?

Thanks!

I think it depends on your type of gigs. If you’re flying or touring by bus, where your pedal board is out of your hands a lot and being handled by people who don’t respect what’s in the case, then I’d go with the flight case. But if you’re like me (a weekend warrior) and you carefully handle your own gear in and out of a car and your home, then a soft bag is probably sufficient.

I’ve been using a MONO Club bag (soft, but well padded case) for my main DIY pedalboard (where my Noble lives) for a couple years now, and have had no issues.

HTH!

I second what @jondiener said. If it's outta your hands, flight case is a no-brainer. Otherwise, MONO case is great.

My Noble is on the way and I've already built a pedalboard for it: Peterson Strobostomp HD, and a Cali 76 compressor on a MONO Lite board. All packed into a MONO Tick attached to my bass bag.

Here’s the board I put together a few years back. I kept telling myself I’d add as needed, but after 1,000+ bookings, I have yet to need anything more.

my Noble is on a Metro 20 with tons of room, so I'm thinking the 18 would work fine if you did not have a ton of other pedals to include.

As far as the Noble tubes, they are very well protected and are unlikely to get much abuse in a soft case. All you see from the outside is the spring retainers on the tops of the tubes .. all of which is pretty well recessed into the sturdy casing.

up to you of course, but mine has been fine in a soft case since I got it earlier this year.

good luck

OK...OK...I know I’m a foreigner but I lived in EB land for 45 years (and still play and record with my EB’s), but due to a bout with cancer a couple years ago and subsequent hearing loss, I now play mostly upright. I have several nice, mint condition EB set-ups but looking for tube warmth and light weight for URB.

I am going to stick with my pair of Bergantino Reference 112 cabs along with a Greenboy Crazy 8 & 88 for smaller rooms. I am looking to stay with my Grace Felix and Sarno Black Box (tube buffer, Vari-Z) to tame the piezo 700hz “quack.” I am unsure of the amp but may go with a Jule M700, anything bigger is FOH and honestly, I could go smaller but really like the headroom.

Anyway, I am considering either a Noble, a Jule dovecage Monique, or Sarno Octal V8 to run my rig with. If any of you guys have helpful advice, especially if you or someone you know has experience with these for URB, I would REALLY appreciate the feedback. Thanks, Keith. PS: I’m playing on a bluegrass cruise in Florida in mid-January and am cleaning house on some EB gear if anyone’s interested. (Aguilar DB751, DB115 & DB212 cabs...Mesa Walkabout w/ 12” speaker, GK800RB with Hartke 210 & 115, Bergantino Forte, SWR 750 bass power amp, etc... I am driving from MN to Nashville to Titusville, FL and could transport for free).

If the cost doesn't bother you get the Noble. Easy to carry around and sounds glorious.

You’re no foreigner here, bud! I’ve been using my Noble with my uprights for years now and I always manage to get a good tone.

One thing that I’ll say, is that I do use the phase invert feature of my Fdeck HPF a good bit and the Noble doesn’t have one. It may not be the ideal way to tame feedback, but it sure is quick lol.
