Nobody cares about your tone....

I'm just tickled that I was able to create my first daily most active thread!
I saw it and wondered why he bothered even. Don't like effects, cool... don't use them."Guess what? In the house, it sounded like...that's right...BASS!"
Nah, sorry. It was insulting to those of us who use pedals. Frankly, I think he had a soundman who dicked him. I think he was taking a bypass DI signal and going with that
I used to gig with a huge pedalboard with a dozen or so pedals, now I might use a chorus a bit and an envelope filter for funky stuff. All those effects didn't sound terrible, I am just lazy and couldn't be bothered lugging that big bugger around.
Usually I use zero effects, but could care less if other bassists use a 42U rack and 3 pedalboards filled with effects. Knock yourself out!
Shooting fish in a barrel, you were. I admit I'm a sucker for these threads every single time. Anyone can create attention by pissing off 90% of your audience
Now that I upgraded from my piece of plywood sprayed black and got a real pedalboard last week, it's like a whole new world and the schlep doesn't seem so bad. Besides, I have to use pedals anyway because of switching between upright and electric. Might as well have a few fun ones.
Or maybe I should just not bother with using an upright since it all just sounds like bass anyway and nobody can tell even the slightest difference.
Oh oh. Hope there isn't any open real estate on that board. I'd so, go check out the Big Breeders pedalboard thread in Effects. That's your next step!

No, but reception got affected when I tried to mount my wirelesses under the board.
I've decided to never go bigger than this Pedalboard Jr. I really don't use a lot of effects...OC-2, a couple different distortions, occasionally a clean boost.Oh oh. I'm used to obsessing over my tone on the drums or my hand percussion rig. I put a lot of time and effort into how I sound. When I got serious about bass there was never any doubt that I'd be the same way.
I figured out that my favorite bass tone was usually a P-bass with flats played finger style through an Ampeg rig. I've been putting a great bit of effort into playing bass with touch and feel that create the tone that I'm searching for. The musicians that I work with seem to understand this drive for the right tone and appreciate it.
As for the general audience, likely they don't understand or care about the bassist's (or drummer's) specific sound. But, if it sounded crappy, they might notice it in a bad way.
I work to get good tone to support the music, to me that's what really matters in the end.

Mounting a wireless under the board is still prohibited in some states.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Tone is in your knuckle bones. You Don't need that fancy amp, pedals or bass! Get yourself a homemade washtub bass and done! Nobody is listening but they sure will watch!!

I am going to bring a tuba to my next gig as people in the crowd don't care and really only want to hear the bass notes.
How do I hook a tuba up to a DI though?

One of those electric tubas and the theremin I have been begging my wife to get me buy for years and I am set.
Let me fire up those babies at a gig and then tell me that nobody cares about my tone!
