noise from cable?

I can never remember which version of it, there are many.

ok, so i cleaned the plug and jack. worked for a bit then the sound came back, sounds like the interference type noise. i unplugged the bass then plugged it back in and sound was gone. maybe the electrical wiring in the house. i use a firman power rack....

Sometimes a cable gets worn out by things running over it like casters of an amp, or kinking, stepping on it many times, etc... As a result the shielding can be damaged which will likely cause the hiss or hum. This goes especially for cheap budget cables where the braiding is weak copper housed in soft cheap rubber.

Many years ago when I played gigs, I switched to higher quality cables with better materials specifically for the durability factor.

yep, first step. find out where the problem is actually coming from. hell, is there a battery in the bass? if so how old is it?
