Noisy Microtubes...?

Hi there,

Has anyone experienced their Microtubes Vintage to be noisy with a vintage P-Bass when the drive setting is pass noon ?

Mine does, and the noise increases the more the drive knob is cranked.

It's part a bit of white noise (ssshhhhhh) and part elctrical hum.

Have I got a defective one ?

Describe noisy. Sound samples? It should be noted that pretty much any overdrive out there will add a noise floor

For the power supply issue, Doug has said they occasionally have issues with non-regulated and/or poor quality power supplies. Doug always recommends 1spots. Not sure how the Boss compares in this respect. When you say "DC Brick" you mean the MXR?

I would imagine it is capable of enough gain to produce noise if you're playing loudly. That's just the way it goes if you aren't using a gate. I wouldn't worry about it if you can't hear it in the mix.

^ This is all assuming you don't have a power supply issue but it sounds like you're just describing the noise floor of the pedal.

The BOSS is much more reliable than the 1spot in my experience, particularly with Darkglass pedals. Although, Doug definitely knows better than I do. If you are getting noise with just a long PSA-25 into a lone outlet, than it is probably running properly.

Yeah, I recommend 1spots as the most affordable option I know of, but of course we all know there are several better options out there!

As for the noise, it'd be good to see some clips, specially comparing it to the Myco on a similar drive setting (that would help determine whether the noise is within normal range or not).
