Played guitar for almost 50 years and harmonica, retired 7 years ago and took up the ukulele and never touched my guitars again (gave all 4 to my nephew), then a year later took up the bass uke, which has become my #1 instrument.

Also at last count, there are 30+ musical instruments in the house .... most of which i DON"T play!

What I actually play (other than bass) and what I attempt to play are two different things. Ok - clarinets, bassoons / contrabassoon, oboe, saxes, bagpipes, flutes, guitars, mandolin, cello, cittern, bouzouki, domra, keyboards / piano, Chapman Stick, harp, harmonicas, shofars, and I got a little trumpet I can barely get any sound out of at all. Must be missing a bunch too.

I was a developing guitarist in my teens. Even if I ended up as a bass player I've always kept a 12-string at hand, mainly for songwriting. By now it's a MIJ Fender Strat XII. Also have my son's old Yamaha C40 Spanish guitar that he learned on, but didn't stick with when he became a singer. It wasn't expensive, but still sounds really nice after I changed the strings. I sometimes play Love's Alone Again Or on it.

Played guitar for 20 years. I'm very good at copying the things other guitarists do. Can play pretty much anything. Hate it because in a cover band every song seems to have a different amount of gain and its frustrating. Sometimes you want that fender clean, vox with blues grit, marshall through greenbacks, orange grind, and a huge pedalboard. It's a different world than bass. You dont want to be caught playing a metal gig with an open back fender or a blues gig a non reverb closed back orange. I remember when I sold all my les pauls and amps my first bass rig ever was a Stingray Classic and a V4B head. LOL. I dont have either anymore but I'm more happier than I've ever been now. Gimme a pbass and enough wattage and thats all I need.

Besides bass, I have an acoustic and three electric guitars; play the acoustic way more than the electrics, and will be trading one of them for custom bass in the next few weeks.

- I have an old cheap mandolin. For years, before getting into bass, my main musical outlet was banging out campfire tunes on it.

- There's a digital piano in the living room and a Korg keyboard in my practice space. I only play a little, took some lessons when I was a kid but never really became a pianist. Useful to have around, though, and my daughter is taking lessons.

- Lots of miscellaneous percussion - a cajon, a djembe, tambourine, stuff like that.

I played violin in elementary school, I doubt I could resin the bow now. Played clarinet in jr high. I didn't play anything for several years but always wanted to learn guitar. When I was 37, my wife bought me an Ovation Celebrity Deluxe. I taught myself to (play?) place my fingers on the correct strings to make acceptable noise, to accompany myself on songs I had written. At the age of 44, my church praise band was looking for a bass player. Although I had never played one,(not sure if I had even held one) I became the bass player. Rarely pick up the guitar anymore, and other than keeping decent rhythm by snapping my fingers, I don't play anything else.
I really enjoy reading this thread and seeing all of the accomplished musicians, who are able to play multiple instruments.

Only other instrument I play regularly is guitar, and I have a USA Strat, a G&L USA Comanche, and an old Washburn acoustic. Unless I'm working on bass for a project, I probably spend more time on guitar than bass, but I haven't played guitar in a band in almost 30 years. (I've come close in recent years though.)

I also have a keyboard, a couple harmonicas, and some percussion, but I almost never play any of them. If I had a drum set I would play it, so it's probably a good thing I don't! My brother is a very accomplished and sometimes professional drummer, so in high school I learned some basics on his set and I've played drums in jam sessions with bandmates, but I don't consider myself a drummer in the least.

Recently added this to my caterwaul factory. Baritone B-B, 27 scale with Fralin hybrids. Sweet and twangy all dangy day. So now I can go ba-dow-dow-down like trucker songs when I'm feeling froggy and I can make Deftones noises when I'm not. Loving the range.
