Nordstrand BigRig Pickups

Never tried the BigRig, but judging by Rojo's clips, quite close: Nordstrand BigRig Pickups

I think BigSplits may get even closer? From my experience, they're real close... Maybe tweak the resonant peak with a capacitor and you're basically there...

I've got Big Splits in a J bass right now. I really like them, but they aren't totally a P sound. Maybe 75% of the way there.

Agree with you 100%. Big Splits DO NOT do what P bass pickups will do with flatwounds. I have not found a great sound with flats and Big Splits...I much prefer rounds with Big Splits.

I have flats with my big splits. Has a very nice and warm fat J sound, but doesn't drop down into the mix like a true p pickup. Not a bad thing at all, but not a P sound if that's what you are looking for.

I’ve had a set of these pickups for a while now but never installed them in anything, but that is going to change soon!

Going to stick with the 51 inspiration of these pickups but with my own body style and neck.

Quick and dirty mock up. The body is (heavy) Ash, and the neck I plan on using is actually all Wenge. I’ll probably use a Hipshot B bridge as well. Finish and pickguard are TBD.

The controls will be volume, 3 way toggle, tone. I may do push pulls on the volume and tone to split each pickup between series and parallel.

I’ll be sure to post a final shot when it’s all done with my impressions of the pickups.

In case anyone is interested, I'm selling what I consider the most killer and versatile Nordstrand set, a Big Rig and a Big Split, for 6 string (18mm). thread.

Just a heads up, its a great deal and an awesome combo. I'm such a fan of the Big Rig. What a glorious tone..... And the Big Split adds a lot of punchy articulation and burp.

Good luck with that sale!

Do you run the Big Rig in series or parallel in that setup with the Big Split?

both! I had it wired to series/single coil/parallel switch, and would use it usually in series mode for the fullest sound, but if the room was boomy sometimes series cut better. But it blended really well with the big split in both settings.
