Nordy Big Blades

They might not be low output in comparison to single coil Jazz pickups, but I was expecting more from such a big casing. There's plenty of room in there to really overwind it.
My SR eXtreme has a good bit more output, but those are humbuckers.

Are those the licensed ones or the real Nordstrands?

AFAIK the ones in Ibanez are the same as they sell on the open market.

if you overwind them then they will sound different and the whole point in a pickup it's mostly the sound. Nordstrand Big Single is about a "bigger" J sound, not a hot, dark J, or high output Humbucker (in series).
Because of the slanted (twisted) pole pieces, the coil is wider, hence a soapbar case is needed instead of the typical J one.

4-string
I know there are many more factors, but wanted a general idea of what sort of impedance I'm looking at.

Recently I switched out the A/C blend in my SRX to be a 2nd volume & it didn't seem to increase the output at all, which surprised me.
My only guess is that the high impedance of the PFR humbuckers just blows right past that extra 50K Ohms of resistance of the A/C taper pot.

So far that's put me off of replacing the A/C blend in my 4-string Ibanez Premium with Big Singles, assuming they're pretty high impedance as well.

I'm kinda torn between all the various options in the Nordstrand soapbar library.

The Big Blades look good... but so do the Big Singles, Big Splits, Big Rigs, Fat Stacks...

And to top it off, the videos of the original Nordstrand DC pickups sound freaking amazing. But then I have to decide if I want them optimized for parallel wind or series winding.

I feel paralysis by analysis setting in.

I'd get one DC wound for series in the bridge & another DC for the neck wound for parallel.
Then, if I was still feeling saucy, I'd give each of them a push/pull volume pot (no blend) so I can switch them between series & parallel.

I think that configuration would give you the widest variety of timbres to choose from.

Isn't there a new one out called BigMan that's two Big Singles in a Music Man-sized case?

Ha, I'm a simple man so I don't see that happening. I've got a Sadowsky preamp because it's "boost only". The less switches, the better.

There is a BigMan, but that's not the same shape as a Bartolini P2, and I'm not cutting into my Sadowsky so I'll probably just end up keeping it simple and getting the Big Singles.

Nordstrand advertises Big Singles as "hands down the tonal giants of our bass pickup arsenal", which has convinced me not to "upgrade" to Big Splits.
I must have played my Ibanez Premium all of 2 bars before I knew I needed to own it. Those Big Singles are the bee's knees & basically what I expected a Rickenbacker to sound like when I tried them years before.

Here's a quick comparison -

Yeah, that description sounds like the Big Singles are what I'm looking for.
