Not happy at all with this "new" forum layout !!!!!!!!!

Ok,,, I been playing with this new layout of TB and I am lost,,, I'm so lost I was not even sure were to post this complaint (please move to the correct category)

The search function for the forum category's ,,,,, where is it ????,,, is it the general search tab at the top of the page ???

I ran some searches from the top of the page but still not sure if I'm getting search results from the entire forum or the sub category (example: if I'm in the Amps section how do I search the Amps section only ?)

When search results come up where is the thread counts that show how many times the thread you searched has been been viewed ????

The original TB forum was so easy to navigate and view all the information on threads and everything else,,, this sure ain't the case now !!!

If it ain't broke don't fix it,,,,, nothing in the original layout was broken, it was clean, simple, and very easy to navigate,,,,,,,, now it is not !!!

Very bummed to see TB change a great forum layout that had a great UI into this new over complicated UI !!!

Please place this in the correct sub forum ,,, where ever that is :(

Where is that "retro style" you are talking about
What does "bottom left of footer" mean?

I like some changes and others, well, not so much....maybe the retro style will work better for me once I find it.....

Ahhh,,, well that's different,,, thanks.

I guess I'm so used to other forums that when you hit "quote" your automatically quoting and replying just by hitting "quote".

Take a closer look at David's post. The number of replies is part of the information displayed when you check the box for "display results as threads."

As David indicated, you can specify in the search dialog box to sort by the number of replies, which should be very handy for the type of search you are trying to do. You can also specify for the search to only return threads with a minimum number of posts.

I know this is going to get a while to get used to, but on the home page with the latest threads, is there a way to display which subforum it was posted in (ie. Basses (DB), AMps (BG), technique, etc) like the old style did?

I've now went to two DB threads thinking they were for BG. Some people's thread titles can be very misleading as well. This feature would give us a better understanding of what the thread is really about... Bass Humour comes to mind.

I agree with most of the opinions here. I wish I didn't have to say it so strongly, but I really hate the way Talkbass looks and works now. Its very similar to what happened to harmony central. Much harder to navigate, and not at all easy on the eyes. The original talkbass was so sleek and easy to use. Even in "Retro" I still am not a fan. Definitely won't be on here much any more...

The navigation is not harder, only a bit different - you'll get used to it. The look can get tweaked if you care to tell the site owner what you don't like and suggest improvements.

If people can't get over the change and leave the site, likely after hardly trying to use it then I don't think they were all that interested in the first place.

So much to like with the new format... Quotes are condensed, so no more endless scrolling... Nice go-to-top, -bottom scroller on the right... Alerts... Easier to multiple quote...

Some things take a while to get used to. All in all, I think it's a winner.

Let me see.................ahhhh, Windows 8 IS widely hated and so Talk Bass had to follow suit do the same thing? You guys really messed up a very easy to use and understand forum. Now, we got this "MESS"!

HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Several people have said this, and I don't think this is even remotely similar to Harmony Central. They did an emergency upgrade of their forum software, which resulted in an extended outage of the site. Then when it did come back online, there were tons of bugs, and their new forum software was horrible. For example, their new software did aware with the BB codes that are used by the vast majority of forums these days. Quoting a post involved HTML tags. It was virtually impossible to multiquote. It was terrible for mobile access. In short, the forum because virtually unusable.

I think that this upgrade has been a very stark contrast to Harmony Central. Putting aside for the moment whether you like the aesthetics of the new site, the actual transition to the new software was incredibly smooth. The site was down for, what, a couple of hours? There were a few configuration glitches and bugs, and one significant policy decision (regarding replies to threads in the classifieds), all of which were addressed by the staff almost immediately. There was virtually no downtime whatsoever, and given the size of the site and the volume of the message history, I think it's nothing short of amazing that the staff was able to implement the change so efficiently.

As far as the upgrade itself, many of the complaints that I have seen so far have been from people who simply haven't taken the time to learn how the new site works. For example, I've seen a number of complaints that there is no way under the new system to find all of the threads someone has started, but as I posted this morning in another thread, I've found at least three different ways to do that.

I understand the change is disconcerting, especially on a site where the same format has been in use for a number of years and there is a high comfort level with the old system. It is a hassle to learn new ways of doing things that used to be familiar, but it's worth taking an hour or two to work through the site and explore the menus and options before complaining. There is very little that I have found so far that could be done with the old site that cannot be done with the new, and in many instances, the new site offers significant advantages and additional functionality that I think people will really like, if they just give it a chance.

AMJBASS, the above comments are not directed specifically at you ... yours just happened to be one of several similar posts. However, I am curious about your comment that the site is harder to navigate. The new "Forum" button will take you to a page listing all of the subforums that is almost identical to the page on the old site, and if you mouseover the "Forum" button, you get a list of all of the subforums so you can navigate to any forum almost instantly. The "New Posts" link, which I use quite a bit, appears when you mouseover the "Forum" button on the home page, or in the navigation bar on every forum page. After a little bit of acclimatization, I'm finding it faster and easier to get around the new site than the old. What do you find harder?

I was using an illustration about Windows 8.1 and the new Talk Bass layout. Windows just created a new download to make 8.1 more like it's older software because many, a majority didn't like 8.1 start up page.

Now, in much the same way, Talk Bass is like Windows 8.1 in that simplicity has been traded for complexity. (When I first dealt with Windows 8.1. it took me 5 minutes to figure out how to shut down. With XP, it used to be a one step process to shut down. Now, it's a 3 step processs with 8.1.

Yeah, yeah, yeah....................I'm sure I'll figure it out on down the road. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm an "old ass" baby boomer still playing a '66 Fender P Bass and find it difficult to adjust to change.................like Talk Bass' layout.

WOW! I've just spent one and half hours on Talk Bass trying to re-learn how to use it. I really wanted to use my hour and a half doing something else! Took me 20 minutes to learn how to delete my old PMs. Has taken me 15 minutes to learn how to buy stuff on classified. And it has taken me much time to view new posts, find feedback records and really, all of the old basis stuff.

Even signing in requires my email address and password. Used to be all I had to do was hit my password.

I'll still not seeing how to view the history of conversations with threads and posts.

I'm not digging this at all!

Simplicity is always the desired goal.................Talk Bass has gone the other route.

Incorrect. You can sign in with your username and password, just as you have always been able to do.

Click on a user's profile and then click the "Postings" tab to see their posts, or on the "Information" tab, which has links to all of the user's content and to all threads by that user.

Agree completely. Ultimately, the people in control at HC (and I don't mean mods, I'm talking about those with hands on the the purse strings) didn't care. The most blatant evidence for that includes (a) it's still not fixed, they changed again to VB5 and appear to have loads of bugs still to contend with and (b) the 3-month interval between announcements of "It'll be fixed real soon" (usually made by a different moderator from last time).

The rapid updates made here in the wake of the big change (in particular the CSS issues that showed up on workplace PCs, and the re-instating of classified comments) are evidence that TPTB here DO care and are listening and fixing.

That being said, to fix things, they need info. There haven't been too many here, but posts along the lines of "Don't like it. Bye" don't achieve anything useful. If you don't like it, you need to be specific about what's wrong.
