NPD... Ampeg SCR-DI!

My understanding is that the person who wrote the answer did not take into consideration the scenario under which the DI out on the preamp is used for FOH.

The advice is based on the same approach according to which some effects are placed before amp and some in the FX loop of the amp, IMO.

... I'll have to do some more research/experimentation as to ...where to best install in the signal chain (pedalboard)... I would think pre-effects, myself, but I'm new to this category...

It depends whether you use the preamp's DI out for FOH/mixer.

If you do, you need to place the FX before the preamp in order for them to affect the FOH signal.

If you don't, you can do it any way which sounds good. In such a case, I would probably follow the manufacturer's advice.

What I sometimes do is that I send FOH two signals: one clean and one effected so that the FOH guy can mix them as he likes. In such a case, I would place the effects after the preamp and send the FOH signal from both the preamp's DI (clean) and amp's DI (effected).

If Ampeg told you to stick your head in a fire, would you?

:D

But seriously, this is only the opinion of the person who wrote the copy, and if you use the SCR-DI to go to the board, you are not going to have it in the PA if you put it after the SCR-DI. So what would be the point unless you don't use it to go to the board?

I guess if the delay actually sounded better after the SCR, you could run a conventional 1/4" cable to the bass amp then send a pre-EQ DI / XLR to the mixer.

I love this pedal, too... I guess if you're using it live, you're either configuring it one way, or the other, pre-gig...

... "Let's see... did I leave it configured for the active bass, or passive? Honey, have you seen my screwdriver?"

If the -15db pad is enabled, would a passive bass be non-existent?

LOL! No, but it would be 15db quieter, which some might interpret as non-existent.

Some might be offended at your laughter for a most sincere question, but not me...

... I'll take the laughs, any which way I can get'em...

... I wonder if anyone has made this internal jumper more accessible, from the outside of the unit...

... sort of like, in between songs, you swap from a passive to an active, whilst playing 'Operation' with your modified SCR-DI...

Well gee, this post was even funnier than the first one, but now I'm afraid to laugh! I sincerely thought you were making a goof with the first post.

But I will agree with you that they should have put the -15db switch on the outside. Not that I would ever use it (even my hottest actives don't distort in the 0db position), but I get why some would prefer it on the outside.
