NPD DSM Noisemaker Drive Maker

I am loving all of the tones I can get out of this pedal. The versatile switches allow it to mesh very well with any other dirt pedals I stack in front of it in the signal chain. I am currently using a mix between the “Sheehan Solo” and “Fuzzy Octave Up” default settings listed in the user manual - using it as an aggressive fuzz with plenty of low end and unique octave up breakup characteristics that I have really not heard in any other pedals. Great stuff.

Wow that's awesome!, It seems that after a bit of tweaking you have got the grasp of how this pedal works..getting it to make new unheard tones is exactly the point of it, and I think you got it pretty well!!

Wow the phaser section of that demo gave me some ideas for using my trem or some of the odder delays from the Nemesis in the effects loop. Sounded really rad. I finally got my OCS and drive maker back from my guitarist so I can finally dig a little deeper with both.

Yeah we had the Driver Maker into a few Source Audio pedals then OCS into a Marshall stack. Beautiful noise, and the OCS gave a great signal to record all the grindy goodness . Now if I could just get him to focus and not wank around with these toys we would be on to something.

I think the Drive Maker is going to have a home as my dirt for modulation. I played around with some sounds for the trem this morning and its versatility is a huge plus in being able to get the grind just right. Not at all what I was expecting to do with this but yet another nice tool to have in the box.

Ha. I had already caught the MrExcane demo on Facebook, and really liked it: the Drive Maker seems to offer many different tones, and JohnK backed this up just above. It's high on my wish list, especially because I find my OmniCabSim (v1) so versatile and useful. I bought my OCS second-hand so no discount for me on the DM, unfortunately!

Bumping the thread because I'll be in the club soon. I own over a dozen OD pedals that cover a wide variety of tones (the ones I need anyway), so my 2017 New Year resolution was "NO MORE." However the Drive Maker seems to have a unique and versatile feature set, and I couldn't resist the TalkBass discount.

Obviously I'll post more once I get it and gig it. Unfortunately my next gig isn't until April 22 and it'll be classic rock/R&B so I won't be able to use crazier OD tones (not without getting stinkeye from the BL), but it'll be a good test for subtler shades of OD... and I can dial in anything I want at home of course. :bassist:

Unfortunately, I do not have enough thumbs (just 2 :)) to put up for DSM pedals. As a proud owner of both OmniCabSim Deluxe and DriveMaker, I can definitely say they are very versatile, with lots of possibilities to tweak your sound. I came across DSM through TalkBass, with the post created by @Darkglass and I decided to give a try and never regretted a penny out of that decision. They are both unique designs, not clones of any other pedal in the market, so that's where the creativity kicks in. Should I say Chile rulez? :) Keep up the good work Daniel!

I am very happy to see that the drive maker is being praised here! It is nice to see that all the love i put into each pedal i build gets to you.

...and it came in yesterday as expected. I got to noodle around with it for awhile through my little combo amp.

First impression was not good: "hey, even on low gain it sounds sputtery and uneven". USER ERROR: one of the octave settings was switched in (I blame the blue laser LED)! I switched octave off and got a warm, transparent OD tone. I had to leave for my music lesson in an hour so my next step was to go through the sample settings in the manual. The Motown tone was warm and phat. The higher gain settings I tried such as Schism, Sheehan, and Driven Tube Amp were great, too! I will add that the upper octave effects are a nice effect at higher distortion levels.

I'm going to gig it this Saturday. I'll be doing classic rock/Motown so I'll stick with the lower gain settings. At my rock gig a week from Friday I can (and will!) try out the heavier tones.

Part of me wondered why I pulled the trigger -- did I really need another distortion pedal? But this even though I've only had the Drive Maker for one evening, I love it. Same as the OmniCabSim, it's versatile, useful, musical. The excellent feature set was easy to use once I become familiar with the switches and dials (always important). The Drive Maker sounds great at a wide range of gain levels, and I can use it with any band, any style of music.
