NPD DSM Noisemaker OmniCabSim

Thinking about picking one of these up in the next preorder batch, but I have a few questions:
When you bypass the pedal it turns off the cab sim on the 1/4" Output, so I would be getting the same signal as from the 1/4" Through? What about the XLR out, is it functional when the pedal is bypassed, and if so, is it just outputting the clean, unaffected signal? In other words, can I use this as a plain DI with no cab simulation active if I happened to need to?
Also, I understand that the High Response is a low pass filter, but is the Cab Size control essentially just a high pass filter, something that I could use for speaker protection similar to a Micro Thumpinator or Broughton H+LPF?

Yes, yes, and yes.
Yes this will work, although the HPF frequency cutoff will be a little bit higher (>= 50Hz) than the Thumpinator (~30Hz if I remember correctly).

I'd love to ! But I'm extremely happy with my current version so I have no plan of getting the newest one (as a backup someday maybe ?), and I'm currently funding a Loopster

It absolutely does that. And with the IR cab sim getting more attention I love having the ability to make adjustments on the fly with the OCSD and not having to sit at the computer and fiddling in a software.
This is one of the ways I set mine... I’ll also turn the high response to modern, and it’s always on.
You guys are killing me. I can't wait to get mine and get back on the home-recording train. Plus I need to finish culling my stash of drive pedals, and want the OCSD before I make any final decisions...

As a side note does the battery get segregated when it’s plugged into a power source like a one spot? Does it get shut off? I had to swap batteries today and it seemed a bit premature.

I set up an ampless portable nano board with the OCSD so I can practice everywhere and every time through headphones. Sounds great!
Although sometimes I miss feeling the bass through an amp. Well, the neighbors are happy with my new setup.
