NPD DSM Noisemaker OmniCabSim

Hey guys,

Have a questions - it was probably asked before, but I haven't yet been able to scroll through all 60 pages of this thread trying to locate the answers. Apologies if it stupid.

Firstly pedal usage with the rig - For FOH and recordings, this does look like a magical piece of gear. But what about connectng it to the amp. Lets say I send DI signal to FOH with Omni tweaked to my liking and I get a great FOH sound, but wouldnt it interfere with the on stage amp/cab? Would I have to tweak my on stage amp EQ, or it basically would serve as a HPF/LPF.

Sorry if formulation of the question is confusing, English is not my first language and I'm not sure how to say what I mean. In short - there are no cons of using this as a pedal to go to an amp, for some extra tone tweaking?

Cheers!

It has a "through" output with the unaffected signal, so you can send that to your amp, and the cab-sim signal to FOH.

That is exactly how Daniel designed the pedal and how it was meant to be used.

Sure, but for awhile my small gig rig used a cabinet that sounded way too modern for my taste, and the OCS was the perfect tool to "vintage it up" (using the effected output of course).

Agreed, this pedal offers the best of both worlds having an unaffected out as well. I planed to use it like that but once I heard what it did to my tone in front of my amp, I used it like that and the soundman got those settings....and they always love them.

This amazing pedal just has a way of sweetening everything up downrange. It’s downright incredible at what it does.

That is exactly how I run it. The OCS is last in my signal chain, I run the DI to FOH or a interface, then run the unaffected signal to my amp. It works beautifully. So basically, what mcnach said :)

For reference

How are you all setting the knobs for FOH situations? I had one of the first versions but couldn't stop fiddling with all the knobs. I never knew how it really sounded out FOH.

This has been working for me. Strong sub support, so I need some mid grit to cut through.
Lots of flavors in this box, and I’m just getting started. I’m sure others have their secret recipes as well.

It’s all good- I snagged it! Can’t wait to hear how this works on my board.:bassist:

Also- @willsellout what kind of headphones are you using for practice these days? I’m planning on taking full advantage of some couch practices now and I’m in the market for some new cans!
Jumping in here - when I had the OCSD and used the headphones out I always used AKG K240s. Open back, reasonable price, little coloration, I haven't had any headphone gas for the few years that I've had them. For different uses, I also have a pair of Audio Technica m50x and Sony MDR7506. For headphone bass practice/composition I always use the AKGs

Heck yeah! Thanks for the recommendation- gonna check these out tonight!

@GentProvocateur seem to have similar taste in most things...lol.

I've got a pair of AKG K7XX and a pair of ATH-M50x. My AKG's are more 'clinical' sounding, pretty flat EQ-wise. The M50x's are pretty 'hyped', with boosted bass for sure. It'd probably be better for my sense of what my sound is if I used the AKG's for monitoring and practice, but I'm partial to how fun the M50x's sound, so I use them pretty often.

Fun how there are a handful of Minneapolis people here! @ExaltBass, totally jealous of your Alclairs! I got my ear plugs from them and I'd really like to get some actual IEMs from them at some point.
