I've got a Neve RNDI so that is covered! I was just thinking about possibly running the balanced out into a studio pre etc. Pretty pumped to get this compressor. I've been going back and forth on it for a while(on cost and how practical it would be for live stage applications).

How would you rate the TI Box vs the RNDI?
I have an Oracle on its way and am considering various options. The Teegarden Magic DI also looks great. Have you tried it?
In the meantime, I have a few JDIs I can use.
Thanks,
R

Here's an audio comparison.

Clip 1: Sadowsky into passive Rapco DBBLOX. This is a small, cheap passive DI box.
Clip 2: Sadowsky into Lightning Boy TI Box (passive box) with phase switch in out position
Clip 3: Sadowsky into Lighting Boy TI Box (passive box) with phase switch pressed in
Clip 5: Sadowsky into active RNDI powered by 48 volt phantom power

I have no need for another compressor nor had any desire to look for one (the Becos was tangentially on my radar)...then this stupid thing comes up. I'm a sucker for classic studio compressors massaged into boxes. Luckily I have no dollars for such things.

The LA-1A is worth “freeing up” some $’s for...

Possibly in the future. I have a Dubterranea coming that was a pre-order from months ago, and I have a Dingwall Super-P/J 5 custom due in October. And I'm not playing before 2021 at the very very earliest...sooo....

Until then I'll use the 76CB and J.Kallas LA-2A limiter that are already on my board. ;) Eventually I'll come round to it.

Mine just came in... I would describe it as "fricken awesome". This thing seriously slays. It makes everything in my signal chain sound better. Its not cheap, but with all of the money I've wasted trying out so many different compressors, I could have saved money just buying this one.

Yes—works very well as a DI! That said, you lose the boost (stomp function) in the DI signal, so many choose to place the LA second-to-last in the chain...use a preamp/DI at the end.
I have been doing this, but decided to get a “real” DI to put after the LA-1A. Also using a CIOKS DC7 to power with the adapter cable. Not sure I'd ever turn it off, but I'd like access to the boost function. I have a REDDI on the way. More tubes!!

Mine just arrived via Ebay, do your knobs feel kind of stiff & cheap? They're also not consistent, my "attack" knob is super stiff, and my "knee" knob has less resistance.

I also got a "pop" in the audio path from hitting the bypass switch.

It shipped in a box without anything holding it securely, and the pedal was free to bounce around in the box. The seller said thats how it was shipped to him when it was new, is that how you guys received your units?

The sound is awesome (wish it had a bit of metering tbh), but I expected better knobs/switches/jacks from such a high end device. It was supposed to be in "open box" condition.

I purchased mine from Effectrode. The peak reduction, gain and boost knobs are consistent, but the attack knob on mine is also much stiffer than the knee knob.

However, the pedal came double boxed with bubble wrap both for the box and the pedal inside the box.
