NPD! Guyatone TZ-2

I got the box from Tonefactor (thanks Brad for the fast shipping!) this morning, and so far I'm very impressed. The tone is really aggressive and heavy and it seems to retain the lows even at the highest gain settings. Compared to my Messdrive and Russian Big Muff, well there is no comparison. It is an entirely different beast. I think that this will remain on my board.

my girlfriend bought me one (and a microPOG) for our anniversary, its cool, definitely a tone i like, and using it in certain ways on guitar gives great ring mod/octaver tones too, but i just found its not actually a very bassy pedal, or maybe its a lack of low mids?
my guitarist loved it tho, it sounded like a freaked out version of his black russian muff.

It's not very bassy, but I run it into a bassy overdrive and 15's so it sorta gets made up for. My use for it right now is actually as a solo fuzz, or when I'm playing higher up the neck because my Messdrive gets muddy.

I'm not sure if it actually cuts bass, so much as BOOSTS the treble. I know that's an odd distinction (because you end up hearing less bass). If you like the general sound there are some fancy boutique clones/reissues/revisions of the super-fuzz out there that address some of these issues.

It boosts treble because it adds an up-octave....

One of my favorite pedals ever. I call it "the little orange SOB."

I've wondered for a while why more people don't have one of those. I like mine way better than a muff--there's just so much cutting sound to it.

Even though they are both fuzzes, I think this is a bit of an apples and oranges comparison. Personally I liked the TZ-2 more as well, but they do different things. The Muff is creamy, thick and scooped and the Guyatone is biting, cutting and aggressive.

IMO, the Muff is good for sitting in a mix (especially blended with clean signal), while the TZ-2 is all about the bass cutting through and being the focus.

One of my favorite sounds is still sliding fourths on the D & G strings of my fretless with the TZ-2. Some real interesting sounds when you get into the upper register.
