NPD: NUX Melvin Lee Davis preamp

After much searching, researching, finding the best deals on an IR/cabsim, I finally landed on this NUX NPB-5 preamp! And I rarely buy pedals brand new!

I considered price point along with how much bang for the buck (preamp+separate dirt switch). I seriously considered the DSM Simplifier Bass Station (becuz analog) and the HX Stomp (to replace all other effects) but considering how I like my other pedals, this NUX MLB preamp was the best deal for me. Digital has come a long way! I'll be trying it out on the church PA this Sunday and for a pop/R&B gig the following weekend. I'll let you know what I think if you're interested!

No shame in the little peek behind the curtain.
Glad to see I'm not the only one to discover the Donner Harmonic Square. I use mine for Oct+ and Oct++
Hahaha yes, thankfully the screenshot wasn't at a scene where I could be misunderstood.

That's cool you use Harmonic Square as well. I use it for the same thing. I add a little delay for synth-y sounding solos. I just wish there wasn't so much lag but the small footprint is why it stays there.

I've owned this pedal for a couple years and I really dig it. I only use a fraction of it's capabilities. Primarily as an uncolored signal to my amp with the option of either running a cab sim to my IEM's and FOH, or just a blank IR slot with the built-in HPF to both my amp and the mixing desk. I never really use dirt, but it fills that need quite nicely on the rare occasions I do. If I get any solos on a gig, it serves as a clean volume boost. Great routing options, flexible EQ, and great tonal capabilities from such an affordable unit.

A question regarding the pre/post switch for the DI output:
The manual* says it only bypasses the EQ and the drive section but in my pedal (arrived yesterday) it clearly bypasses the IR too no matter if the IR switch for the DI is on or off. Is this normal?

*"The position of this toggle switch won't have any impact on the speaker cabinet simulation that is controlled separately by the DI toggle."

No that is not normal, the loaded IR cab sim (and eventual set HPF and LPF) should be on in the switch up position, and off in the switch down position, no matter if the preamp and/or drive is engaged or not.

Are you sure you actually got an IR cab sim file loaded though (if this is even possible without creating a flat "blank" IR file)?

To the headphone out and plug out it does work like that but to the XLR out not when it's in the pre position (the switch in the back).
And yes, I have a few of them loaded to the available empty slots. I also checked that it doesn't work with the factory preset IR's either.

Loading an IR in went without any hiccups. I loaded the same IR I use with my Nux Solid Studio box.

What do you mean by "without creating a flat blank IR file"?

I mean I am not sure it is possible to simply not load and IR into the box, so if you want a flat response IR you would have to create it.
