Nice! Do you keep the setting the same on the FG for the YBA as for the Meatsmoke Pre and etc?
Yup, always like 9:30-10:00, I find that to be the sweet spot for me. Bit of volume boost, growl, and no low end loss.

Im throwing some guitar parts on my record and of course I tried the 5th gear out on guitar. I run a strat through some effects and a small tube amp. I wanted to hear what the 5th gear did at a higher frequency focus so this was a perfect opportunity. At about the same setting - (10 o'clock), the guitar just tightens up and pops right through the mix when the 5th gear is engaged. It is a fantastic tone shaper. I found if I selected the bridge pickup and engaged the pedal, I got a nice sharp, cutting rhythm tone with no effort that is still warm and not harsh (have to love tubes). When the pedal is off the guitar simply does not cut through the mix as easily. The guitar tone I'm looking for is a very tight rhythm tone focused in the high end. This allows me to high pass pretty aggressively so the keys have their space and so does the bass. 5th gear is amazing for this.
Isn't it nuts how it seems to tighten and sharpen your signal while at the same time fatten it?! I had an xotic EP booster for a while. And while it was nice, it muddied me up. The FG does the total opposite in that dept but it adds that slight gerth like the EP did. The clarity of the FG sorta reminds me of what the modded pork loin does to my signal.
Yeah it really tightens it up and gives a real nice grind to the tone too if you need it. I'm running mine at 9 now just for a boost in the studio and a little tone shaping. Any rock gig and I'd be at around 11 or so I'm thinking. Ill have my tube pre in a week and then ill really have a better idea of the go to setting for me.
Yeah I run mine anywhere from 9 to 11 oclock. Even fully CCW it still adds that lil som som to your signal. Its funny because this is a pedal I dont talk about much (although when I do I gush over it), but it's a pretty gnarly and influential pedal of all the things I have onboard. Ive had it off a couple times and it always finds its way back. Its just too good, and too small!!, to not keep onboard. Instant fattner/tightener/gnarly machine! And like Shu had stated, its AMAZING going into a monster tube head. @XXL, you will be very pleased given your recent acquisition.......![]()
At my two shows this week, I used my dual Fifth Gear for about 90% of my dirt needs. One side set to about 930, the other set to about 1100, and sometimes I'd run the two stacked. Man oh man. This isn't just a good OD to use alone in a pinch, it is a great OD to use, period...and is so good, the need for running anything else diminishes drastically. @XXL you are totally going to dig it.
Straight from the horses mouth
dual fifth gear with boost, buffer, and master volume. You can assign the second fifth gear to either the OD circuit or the boost circuit for OD/distortion/clean boost/dirty boost capabilities
