NPD... with a problem (which seems to be corrected!)

I don't think it's the quality of the pedals themselves, but I read some threads regarding some questionable cloning of the guts without credit given.

Most likely cloning guts, of pedals that were essentially clones of earlier designs. This stuff is rampant in the pedal designer community, and there are lot's of sour grapes despite the irony.

People used to buy up new Paul Cochrane Tim and Timothy pedals and immediately sell them on Ebay at a pretty steep markup. This worked because there was a pretty long waiting list to get one of these pedals. I believe there are also various clones of these pedals, and some have been offered by large companies. AFAIK, Paul introduced some of his own tricks, but much of his design is pretty close to earlier designs. His philosophy was to charge a fair price and not worry about it.

As far as the original name of the Lucky Cat, I suspect that's a lesson learned. It was probably a huge surprise to learn that anyone cared about the name. AFAIK, Ashdown changed the branding of the LB30 for the similar reasons. FYI, Ashdown has an automotive theme with many of their amps and Little Bastard refers to James Dean's famous Porsche.

Not surprised there was a power issue; some pedals are finicky about the tiniest variances in actual voltage delivered, and there's a bewildering amount of variation of fit of supposedly standard Boss-style barrel connections. And, of course, power units can fail intermittently for a number of reasons, with a couple of different possible symptoms.

Congrats on the new pedal! I've been playing with a delay today too, a newly landed Alexander Quadrant Audio Mirror. Haven't figured out yet if it hates buffers prior or if my Klein Bottle needs some internal trimpot tweaks, but standing alone, it's a lotta fun.
 
That's not how current works...a pedal will only draw what it needs. Did you have other pedals connected to the Pig Hog? If the sum of their current draw is close to or over the max of the power supply (1 amp in your case), then you'll have strange things happening. Or the Pig Hog just has an intermittent malfunction...Maybe a conductor is coming apart and it's only holding by a few strands? Who knows...

That said, glad you found the culprit in your setup!
This Pig Hog is in great shape and has no issues powering 10 pedals using a daisy chain plugged directly into it or the in/out of a Korg or Boss tuner/LS-2.

Edit to add: there were no other pedals plugged into it
 
Yep, the 100mA rated Tech21 power supply has it working just fine :)

I'm thinking this Pig Hog (being similar to a One Spot) is rated for way more than that... closer to 1,050mA, and it's just too much for some pedals? It was fine with the Tech21 Oxford minutes before, and many others in the past.

I'll try it tomorrow with the Utility Knife and report back.

Voltage is something you need to match to the voltage range the pedal will take. But a pedal will only draw as much current (mA) as it needs. A 60mA pedal will draw 60mA whether it’s plugged into a 1.0 A supply or a 100mA supply. As long as enough current is available you’re ok. More than you need isn’t a problem.

Actually, having a higher-current capable power supply may run cooler. When I used to do telecom work, we spent a lot of time swapping out power supplies on RADs and other fibre termination equipment with higher amp capabilities so the power bricks would run cooler and last longer between failures (redundant supplies, too)

I was speaking more from the perspective of the pedal earlier. But you’re absolutely right. Having available current capacity well above the actual current draw is a good thing to have. My background is in IT. And when doing site planning we tried to provide roughly 25%-50% more of a current supply than the actual expected load if the budget allowed. And for much the same reasons.

Well, I just went back and forth switching out these power supplies and I couldn't get it to duplicate the original issue(s) at all :thumbsdown: Of course, like that noise the car makes til you get it to the mechanic.

They both operated the delay pedal flawlessly since I've been tinkering with it for the last 30 min. I'm can't think of any other reason for it to get all crazy wonky when I first plugged it in (2-3 times!) but I'm glad it seems to have resolved itself.

Pedal politics aside... It sounds terrific on a wide range of settings, and first impression is I may even like it more than the delay on my Keeley Caverns, but that's perhaps a premature feeling based on being the shiny 'new toy.' Time will tell!

@Wasnex you were correct about not needing to get much wetter than having the dial in the 9 o'clock position :thumbsup:

Doesn’t surprise me at all. Can’t tell you the number of times I arrived at a client site and was told: “You’re not going to believe this - but it stopped doing it the minute you walked into the server room!” :laugh:

In the IT world it’s what’s referred to as a JOOTT (Just One Of Those Things). That’s any malfunction or anomaly that gets fixed by cycling the power a few times, reinstalling the software, or having a qualified service tech merely set foot on the premises.
