It really is ... the variety of tones I get with just switching PUPs and/or going from pick to finger is astounding.
Yeah I had the 700RB-II and was gonna pair it with a couple of Ampeg cabs but ended up with a different rig instead.
Yeah, I could totally picture that working really well - IME, G-K heads pair up nicely with cabs by Mesa, SWR, and Ampeg, just to name a few... I also believe the 700rb-II to be one of the best bass amps ever made... - georgestrings
Well I was looking for different tone from my rig and had already decided to go with Ampeg cabs. Either 115's or 410. I was running it through a Gk Neo 212 at the time. Then I saw the Genz Benz Streamliner and somehow knew that it would get me the tone that I was after. So I now play through the GB Streamliner 600 paired with a GB NeoX 212t cab. Nothing against the GK. In my opinion the GK 700RB-II is destined to be a classic.
Although those 2 companies have vastly different sounds when you think of their sort of signature tones, together they have a ying-yang thing happening that works just great. Much like yours, the 800rb and the 810 is another combo where you have to work pretty hard to not get a good sound out of. I actually prefer GK amps with speakers other than GK cabs.......sshhh, don't tell anyone.
I run an MB500 on top of an 810 fridge and it's best of all worlds for me. Best head/cab combo I've ever had. I'm sure your rig rocks balls. And your head doesn't weigh as much as your cabs
I run My 76 SVT into my Neo 212 tons of growl but deep, tight and punchy also and with the horn knob at 9:00 some nice articulation
