DB strings are generally much cheaper mail order, via the internet!!
Thanks for the suggestion! The shop quoted 143 euro for a set of Superflexibles - any reputable addresses in the EU that would be any cheaper?
Still curious about the other points -
Are Superflexibles similar in sound to Belcantos?
Do you put 3/4 or 4/4 strings on the WAV4?
Orchestra or Solo - is that similar to light/medium/heavy gauges like for BG strings?

No idea on the first really although I hear that the Belcantos are optimised for bowing?
On the orchestra vs solo - just ignore the solo and always buy orchestra. These are normal tuning - same as bass guitar, whereas solo means a slightly different tuning, meant for a soloist say, playing a concerto..?
Anyway - the answer is buy Orchs!
You can also get light, medium, etc. for DB strings - so if you look at that website I used - they have 98 pages of Thomastik DB strings..
But they're cheap - pay more if you like!!
Seriously I don't find the search function too bad - I was just illustrating how many different types of DB string there are!
Bel cantos are fairly new in Europe - I only saw the first ad in December !
So the shops selling bulk strings may not have got on to them yet - I'm not really interested in them, as I play primarily pizz anyway and don't really like the sound af amplified bowing - especially my own!!
I recently restrung my NS CR5M with Superflexibles.
Before doing so, I tried out Pistrato Obligatos on my D and G string (it's cheap to experiment with D and G strings).
I use obligatos on my DB and love them.
On the NS, they were too dull for my taste - way duller than on my DB.
I now have all five strings strung up with superflexibles.
Still pretty mellow when compared to the stock NS flatwounds, but they sound strictly better than the obligatos.
One thing I noticed is that the output of the magnetic PU with the superflexibles is considerably lower than it was with stock NS strings.
Of course, the obligatos have virtually no signal through the magnetic...

Same thing here on my Carruthers SUB-1.
The Obligatos don't sound good at all. D is pure thump. Even worse than the Flexocor.
Really ? A more realistic acoustic upright sound than a palatino ? I would have guessed the palatino would have the edge because of the chambers.

ooh, I think it'd be awful on a WAV4 or CR4. Doms are bright and stringy so it would be twice as bad on a stick bass. I didn't try it, but that's my guess. I've used Doms on my DB before. I've got Flexocors (from the previous owner) on mine and they work well.

Huh...not in my experience, on my bass.
If you said Spiro Weich were bright and twangy, I'd agree.

I played a WAV at the Boston Guitar Center yesterday. I was really impressed. I thought that it sounded great for being plugged into an Ampeg B2R and 6x10. One thing that I did notice was that the notes up the neck wouldn't ring out compared to the CR. They seemed to just buzz away. Is that a setup issue or an isse with the fingerboard itself?
I guess I would get laughed right out of this thread if I dared mention out loud the desire to see a 34" scale version of this bass.
