It's not stripped. It just doesn't stay tight. Like I need to crank it with a pair of plyers. I'll try the CS route. Thanks.

You could probably get something at the hardware store and make a replacement, but I'd just suggest giving NS Design a call (www.thinkns.com) - they may, even though you bought used, be willing to help you out with a replacement gasket.
I found even with the rubber washer I was getting some movement at that joint, and was always afraid I'd end up stripping the the thread on the bolt getting it tight enough.
I followed a previous poster's advice and inserted a little screw part way into the neck side with a corresponding hole drilled into the metal side of the joint - now there's no hassle lining it up straight and it never moves

NS actually called me back today! The guy told me I needed a rubber washer that they had. Asked me name address and phone number and said he'd ship me one right out. Said, OH YOU NEED THAT. No questions except the ones above. DONE DEAL!!!!
Forgot to post up but NS sent me 2 rubber washers! Hot them a few days ago. Makes all the difference in the world.

I few years ago, I chose to sell my CR5M. Bad idea.
Well for the past couple of years, I never seemed to have the money when I would run across a good, used one. They just don't pop up used a whole lot.
So, this week the planets aligned and a "like new" CR5M is on its way to me!!! I appears - as much as I can tell - to be exactly like the one I parted with. I sure hope so. That was an amazing instrument.
Does anyone know if there have been any material changes to them? Should I expect it to essentially the same with it being the same model?

Nope. Don't know if any drastic changes as long as its the same model and scale. Most changes I've noticed are with the 34" scale basses.

So after spending the weekend tinkering with the new (to me) CR5-M, I am having a few minor issues.
I kind of caught a break in that it came with a newer set of Spirocores on it. I like those strings. Always have. But they are solos. The E was too flabby for me and B on the bass was the original NS B. It didn't match tonally at all.
I was able to buy a Spiro B ($85!!!!) and also snagged a mitt E. It helped a LOT although ultimately I'll probably get at least a mitt A as well.
Anyway, After all sorts of tweaking of string height, magnetic PU height, relief, etc. and getting the bridge positioned correctly, I am still not totally happy with the signal output balance between the piezo side and the magnetic side. The piezo is significantly louder.
This is important to me. I do bounce back and forth with this and don't want the overall output to the FOH to be affected.
I know that there are trim pots on the preamp. I removed the back and looked at them. If I am reading correctly, the one that stands alone is the correct one to balance the two outputs, correct?
Does anyone know what the other three in-line do?
I do have one more thing to do before I try to adjust it though. The piezo is a little bit distorted when you dig in. So, I am wondering if maybe just the batteries are weak. The EMG-loaded EBGs that I have had in the past will do all kinds of odd stuff when the batteries start dying. I am going to put fresh batteries in it before I mess with trim. I am hoping it is just low voltage. My other CR5M was balanced perfectly from the factory.

This is probably a very good idea, and I'm glad you thought of it - I'd be surprised if that isn't the issue right there. EMGs -- being fairly low output, active pickups -- need the preamp to be well-powered for good output. The piezos, OTOH, need very little additional gain. Hence, the likely cause for your inbalance. Hope that fixes it!
Bow sling finished utilizing the RoboCup. Added a bit of neoprene sewn by Mrs c-boy, and its perfect and will also hold your pint glass!
