Finally got around to installing the brand new set of S42 Spiros that have been setting on my shelf for two months. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like on the last few sets of new Spiros the G string is not nearly as zingy and “banjo-like” as in years past. Just a nice warm full sound right out of the box; no need for a weeks-long painful break-in. Has anyone else noticed this? Also, when wiping down these brand new strings with alcohol, some black gunk came off, as if I had played them for a week without cleaning them. I bought these from Gollihur, so I’m confident of their integrity, but what’s up with that?

I definitely noticed same when I put on a full set of Spiro S42 Weichs last year. The G string isn't terrible at all and I've grown to really really like it! Puts out a lot of sound, is super clear, has a solid bottom in the lower positions, and sounds like a solo string in thumb position.
