I didn't say it had anything to do with taxes; I was implying that I would have no problem with spending a small portion of my ghastly premium on overpriced bass strings, provided that I did not have to pay the ghastly premium.
Just to put things in perspective, if I currently buy from BSO the same set of string with the TB member discount plus shipping it will cost 33.14 USD converted in CAD it is 42.80. So currently for us up north, it doesn't worth it and we do not have to wait for the strings to be shipped. Having said that, maybe the person who process the set of string at customs may or may not apply the federal sales tax on them on top of all that...
Holy Crap!! I get my D'addarrio Pro Steels for $14 a set through BSO. I change my strings quite a bit too. I would hate to pay that much for strings. You should def try going through BassStringOnline. I need to go ord some myself actually. hehe. But yeah, D"addarrio rocks!
It's not really free. We pay for it thru our taxes!!! Some provinces more than others but we all pay. Ask any Canadian.
I don't need to ask a Canadian. I am going to be one around November 8th.

Ugh, I was really hoping this was a New Strap Day thread. what a letdown. I've been working 3 jobs up here in Canada saving up for a new strap at L&M, just a few more weeks to go!
Seriously, these new retail prices gotta give. I hear the CAD will be getting stronger again by 2019...
And to all the Americans who claim they're coming in a couple months, please bring jobs, gear, and some decent restaurants, mmkay? And be warned, we're nice and polite, but we're not always really all that welcoming or generous to strangers moving in. Just being honest.

A few months ago L&M had these on sale for $29.99. I grabbed 4 sets over the sale period. It's what got me into flats!
