Nut questions help

I feel like the notes in the frets 1 to 5 are weaker than 6 to 20, so im thinking in rise the nut a little to get more height in that place, that would fix the problem?

How can I rise up the nut of my bass?

If you are not getting fret buzz, I don't think that changing the nut will make any difference. ALSO - the nut height is only working for open strings. After that, it is your frets that set the level.

sure? I believe the fact that if you get more distance between the string and the frets when the string is depressed theres more distance between the string and the following frets, so the string vibrates more free. Rising the nut should work just like rising the bridge, but in the opposite side of the neck. In theory...

The previous posts are spot-on. The nut is IRRELEVENT as soon as you fret a note. Nothing vibrates after the fret that the string is pressed down on. Nothing.

Buzzing on frets one through 6 is an issue for truss rod adjustment.

The nut should only be high enough so that when you press down a string on the 3rd fret, it clears the 1st fret by about .010", anything higher and you run the risk of throwing off your intonation at the lower frets. The nut has very little bearing on the tone of the bass after you stop playing open strings.

What kind of bass are you playing? How long has it been since it's had a setup? Have the notes on the lower frets always been softer or has the problem arisen recently?

Softer-sounding notes can be caused by several things: dead spots in the fretboard, a soft neck, truss rod adjustments, etc. If you can give a little more information we can probably help out with the problem a little more. The forum is also no substitute for a good repair technician, you might want to take it in to someone who can give you a professional opinion.

The bass is now in the technician´s store for a full setup. i´ll go today. When i arrive back i ´ll tell us. I was perciving the notes are a bit weaker (less air and low end) in the 1,2,3,4,5 frets, not deadspots. A more full sound from 7 fret to 20 frets.

Once you fret a string, the nut has NO impact on what's happening to the vibrating section.
