don't follow "bass pedals are just guitar pedals with bass in the description or based off of a guitar pedal".

and if you only use the Boss guitar FX for bass (i THINK that's what you mean),

um, you lost me there too.
I mean don't limit what you try with the boss stuff to only what specifically says "bass"
And I gotcha on the amp sims, I never used them so that wasn't a loss for me. I have Amplitube with all the amps I could ever need.

i have Amplitube 5 MAX and ToneX VSTs = i prefer them to Helix Native by a long stretch.

Though the Amplitube 5 Aguilar DB750 is noisy - while the ToneX DB750 is quiet. weird.

I've been looking for a live modeling solution, though.

i have all the software sims i could ever want - all 'basses' covered.

If Amplitube 5 MAX came out as a pedal, or if ToneX could EASILY load Amplitube 5 patches, I'd jump on that hardware in a hot second.

i prefer modelers over capture.

still hoping to see a compact/non-PC or non-laptop VST loader - pedal form factor.

The MG-30 doesn't have an Ampeg Bass Preamp/Amp

But the STARLIFT Amp paired with a good Ampeg Cab IR, dial back the upper mids, center the treble, Vintage switch

VERY nice Ampeg-ish tone!

The RC BOOSTER after the GATE adds some secret sauce!

I'm curious about Valeton too but no real feedback from real world bassist that I've found.
I haven’t tried the GP-200, but I used to have a GP-100 and it worked surprisingly well for bass. Good amp sims, pretty much everything had a blend. It was a pleasant surprise, but I didn’t think it worked very well on a board with other effects. I expect the GP-200 to be much better in that regard since IIRC it has an effects loop, meaning other effects are at least a consideration.

This is my preferred amp sim in the NBP-5. Wonderful sound. I pair it with the B-15 or EV12 IR from the Shiftline pack.

Shift Line and SNB have amazing free bass IRs.

i thought about the NBP - MLD - Melvin or whatever it's called for a minute.

but i like the flexibility of the MG-30 for live.

IR update

York has a great rep online.

So, I bought the York Ampeg IR pack.

At first pass, it is very good, if unremarkable. which may be good at times.

I would choose the Bergantino Pack over the York. For variety and tonal flexibility.

The Bergantino Neumann U47 FET DARK IRs are my favorite across the product line.

Slight level adjust in the MG-30 IR loader and that's it.

my go to IRs

Bergantino

Shiftline

Redwirez

current IR faves with the MG-30

especially the MLD and Starlift preamps

Bergantino NXV212 FET 47 Dark 2 Celestion

Bergantino NXT212 Ported2x 10 FET 47 Dark 2 Celestion

the MG-30 Power Amp parameter is a nice touch

i tried using IRs in a loader in my DAW chain instead of in the MG-30.

wow, major MEH

something about using IRs in the MG-30 that is juicy

although controlling the MG-30 IR Filters and Levels is a little flaky.

Hi guys,
Just bought the MG30 and updated it with the v4 firmwire.
Have you been able to dial up à good clanky , crunchy bass metal tone ? I love the clean tones of the bass amp but have some trouble dialing à good metal bass tone.
Aiming at Justin chancelor kinda tone.
