NYC Guitar and bass stores?

DI really enjoyed my visit to the GTR store on wetlst 28th in the flower district. Tons of cool basses and a very relaxed environment.
Also Rudys is great.
GTR store is going for this luxury experience kind of vibe. Big plush couches. Mood lighting. They also have a stage and host some private events in the room. I heard that they've even had some jam sessions, but nothing that I've been able to check out.
My sense is that they're trying to rope you in with this atmosphere so that it won't hurt so bad when you plunk down your credit card to buy that full priced American Vintage or Fender Custom Shop bass.

More of a guitar shop but they have a couple of original 50s P basses and some 70s P's and J's at the moment, and some vintage Ampeg stuff. And it's the best guitar shop experience ever. Wonderful, knowledgeable staff, and a phenomenal collection of instruments. I saw a guy playing a classical guitar that was built before the Civil War (American).

Wow! Thanks for all the responses. I will make a list based on all your recommendations and take it with me. And the food suggestions are just as important. I will be there doing some work, but should have some time for some R&R.
Added some updates to my initial post. Forgot a couple of spots and put those in there.
Where are you going to be for work? There is good food close by to everything, you just need to know where to go
Above all, at least with food, DON'T DINE IN TIMES SQUARE. Almost every place around there is a tourist trap and the food stinks.
Yeah, it is. Before I go I will look at all these suggestions and narrow the list down. I only have about three days. So I will have to prioritize.
Thanks for the heads up. I definitely want to avoid that. I did like John's Pizzeria when I was in NY about eight years ago.
THIS IS THE PLACE called John's Pizzeria that you really want to check out if you're in Manhattan. It's on Bleecker street in the Village.
All these plus Retro Fret in Gowanus, Brooklyn... Some amazing vintage stuff you can find in there...

It was legit NY pizza. Something like $5 for a slice and a small cup of soda.
Try the regular or the fresh mozzarella and basil.
Gave me childhood flashbacks.

If you've never had a NY bagel with Salmon you are missing out! Just try the 'Rivington Street' at Murrays with a salt bagel-Nova lox, sable, cream cheese, red onion, tomato.
Omfg my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
This is what I tell anyone who will listen. If you're visiting NY you need to try the pizza and the bagels.
Are you gonna listen to me?

Summer update/bump
Went to NYC between the 14th and 19th of August, with this list in the back of my head... It was useful, but I expected more of the stores I visited. Went in search of basses from "the sacred era", but it was mainly stuff from the seventies that were available... The bagel & pizza adresses on the other hand were VERY useful, thanks for that
Highlights of what was available: an original 1965 CAR Precision Bass at Guitar Center Union Square, and a Burgundy EB2D and Silver Thunderbird II at 30th street guitars. All the shops were fairly ignorant of us, except Rudy's at Soho, where we were invited in like we were year old friends. And it's not that I looked like a scruffy tourist looking for some cheap jamzzzz. All in all, I expected a bit more of it in the Big Apple. For guitards, there is more to do and see in terms of special/rare/vintage instruments.
