OB Preamp w/ mids control?

I'm in the market for an onboard preamp for one of my Jazz Basses; How many of you Bassist feel that a mid(s) control is necessary on a Jazz Bass preamp since a passive J Bass doesn't have and never has had a mid control? BTW, this particular Bass is an Ash body w/a Maple neck and plenty of "natural" mids and top end. I just wanna hear how other Bassist feel about this 'cause I'm kinda feeling a mid control on this particular Bass could quite possibly be overkill and a waste of space on the Jazz plate. Just curious, Thanks. Oh, in this case we're talking about Bartolini (9CBJD1) pickups and ?Bartolini preamp.

I used to think that all Jazz basses needed a Mid control, but 8 years later and messing with different preamps and pickups in my J's, I have come to the conclusion that what I like in a Jazz is a Boost-only preamp like the Sadowsky or Aguilar OBP-1 with a passive tone control always in the circuit.
But my opinion is in using Standard-style
Jazz single coils. I don't have any experience with Bartolini pickups in any configuration…
