Wasn't my amp but my step-Dad's when I was younger. I used to play through it at home. pre-amp head with 4x10 powered bottom. 2x15 cabs were also available. Obscenely heavy, very loud. I've only ever seen 2 or 3 for sale locally.

Obscure bass amps...

This bass head works very well with my fEARful 1515/66. It's a Seymour Duncan Bass 4000. It's a great example of plug and play. The photo just barely shows that it's rated at 400 watts at 4 ohms and 600 watts at 2 ohms. It weighs about 30 pounds. Has anybody heard of these ???
I saw Seymour himself with a pickup band at a music store in Lakewood CA when these came out, early 80's, and his bass player was using one. He mostly talked about his convertible amps that night, though, in between songs. He's a pretty good hybrid picker. I have one of his 1 x 15 bass cabs that I put a kappalite 3015 in.
I totally remember seeing these for sale up here in Portland. I don't think I ever got to play one tho....
That was my first "real" amp too! Bought it in the late eighties, and it served me well until my mom's cats ruined it.
I unfortunately have no photos of these old amps I played thru so the shots are off Google.
The Classic Thor:
in 1972 i played in the jr High school's 'jazz' band and used their Fender Precision (olympic white, I wish I kept this !) and the Thor amp.
I thought it was loud enough and very cool looking . A great pairing I eventually owned it as the school got new gear and the "Conductor" thought it was junk Ha ha !

Oliver PowerFlex my first band's guitarist's amp which when he got another amp, I used as a bass amp.
the dang head would retract into the cabinet I thought at first "What a gimmick" and never took the amp seriously until I plugged my bass into it and the ease of moving one piece instead of two well,... Mom's station wagon liked that !

Roost amps originally from Southend on sea like Sound City and Hiwatt
Very like the other 4 or 6 EL 34 amps from Southend the Roost however sported an added 12ax7 tube in front of the near Hiwatt clone tone stack and pre amp offering more Marshall JCM 800 levels of gain and the extended bass of the classic partridge transformers shared with the likes of other great amps mentioned here like Sound City, Simms Watts, Hiwatt and Orange Matamps only added to its reputation for great loud fat valve bass tone.

I used to play through one those GBX rigs. Boy I haven't thought of that amp in over 35 years. We ended up using it as our band P.A. at one point. If memory serves me correct it sounded better as a P.A. Used to also play through a Kustom bass amp at one point as well. Most of the other times back then was through my bassman 10 and an Ampeg V4B with a 2X15 West cab, which got totally soaked by a whole night of rain...........me I was passed out in the corn field next to the party house we played at. The V4B still works the cab did not fair so well.
I had this Carvin in the mid 70's. The cabinet was a 2X15 folded horn and was great! The amp performed way beyond it's 125 watts. I used it in a loud, hard rock band and it never let me down. I soon found an SVT head, and with the folded horn, it killed. I often used it along with a 2X15 West bass cabinet, with two EV SRO's. That cab was made of 1" thick particle board and was HEAVY
What year was this? This looks to be of the same era as my Polytone 212-300 by the construction and presentation (the Polytone is not as flashy, but same period I think)...

Mo' cool. Hey my Polytone is a '74, so there I go. Every era has an approach, I guess.
I'd still kinda like to find one of those Acoustic 136 combos. Could've had one a year or so ago, but I just don't buy what I don't need, mostly. Except for the Polytone, the Kustom K200B head, and that more modern SVP Pro preamp that I like... nice Univox.
The Mini Brute is probably their most renown amplifier, yep. The one I have, I've only seen that one...
Here's one for the record books. It's the Dyna-Bass. I'm still trying to locate ANY info about it. Best guess is proto-type for the 400 Series. I've heard it was built in the late 60's. (still a guess) When I google "Dyna-Bass" all I get is the bass guitar, not the bass head. It loves to run a 2 ohms. You gotta love Peavey!

The one with the slant face and 2 channels ?? I had one of those, 4 knobs per channel and loud !! The band guys called it the Dyna Sour I had a home made cab under it that had a "Norge" brand badge I found at the junk yard .....
