OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE: Show your neat pedalboards!

My tidy board. It was cleaner until I decided to stick my giant VP "jr" on there. Cables are pretty neat underneath too.

You heard it. I'm in the final stages of the cables, accessories, basic hardware setup of my board. I want it to look ****ing PROPER.

Not only am I slightly OCD, but I'm super frugal (cheap, that is), stubbornly DIY, and pathologically contrarian. Also, I'm a geek. Here's the result ...

My tidy little build is built on a PT-Jr, with custom patch cables made from thin coax computer networking cable, and GLS Audio pancake connectors. It's all powered by a Joyo power supply mounted underneath. Signal path goes

I bundled all but one of the signal and power cables together, wrapped them in spiral cable wrap, secured that at points with a low adhesion, stretchy cloth tape, then attached the whole run to the board with cable ties and adhesive tie mounts. The signal and power lines for the chorus run across the opposite side of the board and are secured separately.

The drawback here of bundling the runs together, instead of creating direct runs, is that the total cable length is longer than if I ran it all direct, shortest path, point-to-point. I used a total of about 85 inches of cable. If the LS-2's loop with the OD and chorus is not engaged, I cut out about 45" of that.

Based on published specs, the cable has a capacitance of about 50 pF/ft. I wish I could verify that. I might worry about signal loss due to the relatively high capacitance, but (1) the total run is short, (2) there are buffers between runs, and (3) even some of the best cable has a similar capacitance.

Aside from soldering cables, the whole thing took maybe 30 minutes to assemble and secure. I like that it's very stationary, and it's not about to catch on things and tug cables around.

Also, it's cheap. Tape was $2 at Home Depot, spiral wrap cost $5 at Radio Shack and I have half of it left over. Cable ties and mounts I had lying around.

The custom cables are made with GLS Audio pancake connectors. I bought a 20 pack off Amazon for $30.

For cabling, I chose what network geeks used to call "thin net" coax cable. Technically it's RG 58 A/U, and it's dirt cheap, but well suited to short runs like patch cables, provided they don't move around much. It's also very thin, and as long as you get stranded core (that's the "A" designation), it's very flexible.

SF Cable on Amazon sold me a 100' length with BNC connectors for $17. I just cut the connectors off. (They actually screwed up the order the first time, and sent me solid core. I let them know, and they shipped the correct cable free, and just said to keep the first shipment. Great people to work with.)

The shielding in instrument cable is designed so that it doesn't induce static electrical currents when moving it around. This is less of a problem with digital network cable, so the design of the shielding here may generate noise when moving and the inner shield rubs against the jacket. I haven't had this problem, but I wouldn't use RG58 for a guitar cable. I think it's fine for this.

It's harder to keep the cables nice and hidden like pedaltrains users can beacause mine is a flat surface.
Had this setup for a while, but I've moved my wah at the beggining of the chain just yesterday, I guess I'm in the wah before distortion preference camp now. :hyper:
 
Here's mine. I hate the spagetti wires all over the place, so I built this, in part, to hide all of the extra wires. It's a self build from scratch. For those interested, the build thread is in my signature, below. I want to build the top of the outer box to protect the pedals in transit. The bottom has a luggage handle on the left and wheels on the right.
