Ocean bass?

I've played a Ocean bass at guitar center. Very nice, sounded very much like the Cort A series. However, Cort A series can be found new on ebay stores at around $500 or $600. These Ocean basses are at least $100 more. Maybe it's a GC money-making plot?

i just got the ocean tb 75 5 string; would anybody know what strings come with this bass?
they are the same that are in the pictures of the A5 as well; with the black cloth on the ends.

i played ne yesterday @ GC it was mos def a cort style bass down to the T but it played very well and sounded awesome for $800 or so for the 5-string u cant beat it i mean all the parts add up to $400 and material labor etc. great deal...also the one i played had a very nice low action set up w/ no buzzing i was like wow...an inexspencive bass that plays n sounds this great also made me want to sell my ibanez and get one

I bought a 5 string ocean yesterday and it plays great. I call praxis today and talk to a guy named Pat. He said they aim to make professional basses at affordable prices by using good quality parts and sending it to indonisia to save on labor cost. Its the same factory that makes ibanez and a few others. Then they are sent to Cali to be inspected and set up and sent to guitar centers. He really believes in the product and seemed to know what he was talking about. He did admit that it is kinda inspired by the cort artisan 5. i love it.

I made a trip to Guitar Center today. Did my usual "play everything I could get my hands on" routine. I tried a bunch of basses and skipped the Ocean's until the salesman walked up with one.
I wasn't that interested but I decided to humor him. All I have to say is WOW, what a sweet bass!!! It reminded me of a cross between a Schecter and an Ibanez. Tons of punchy tone and smooth low end. The neck was super comfortable and the strings were nice and low with little or no buzz to speak of. A truly amazing bass for the price.

I only found a couple of negative issues.
The body seemed to be easily dented and scratched and the toggle switch seemed fragile.

But other than that the bass was superb for it's price range.
Oh yeah, and I dig the name.

The best basses that I tried out today were in the following order...
Ibanez ATK
Ocean
Schecter Stilletto
Charvel Fusion

hey there, I tried the Ocean 4 and 5 strings yesterday at GC and they played well so I decided to dfo a google search on it and I was lead here.

I love how they play, and they way they respond to my playing

and I don't know if anyone mentioned this before, but it has a metal nut! it's gray, didn't seem like it was brass! :eek::eek::eek:

OCEAN TB75 OPB 4string
looked great.. GC was on clearance so instead of paying 800 bucks
i just paid 500
i looked into the small fonts. its listed as 1199$ wow!
ill post a pic of it sometime but its like a cross between an ibanez RBXxxx and a schecter

I am thinking of getting a new bass and I liked the Schecter Stiletto as well as this unknown to me Ocean bass after playing them in guitar center. Both played well to my likings but I would feel nervous about plunking out $750 to spend on something I had never previously heard of.
Which one is the safer/better pick?

I've been playing the fretted 4-string Laguna Ocean for about 5 months now. Played live and in studio and with the right gear combo I got the sounds I wanted. Hope the brand flourishes, it's really well made and scratches are not super noticeable (on the charcoal finish). Thinking about getting the fretless as well, it sounded wicked last time I plucked around with it at GC.

I just bought an Ocean 4 string fretless at GC in NYC .... I love this bass. Great growl and sustain, hot output, nice neck, plays like buttah. natural maple with the thur neck design, really nice looking for a bass in this price range. What's not to like?
I did try 2 fretless Oceans and one was clearly superior in playability and sound - might just be set up issues, but the more basses i go thru the more I believe some got the mojo and some don't.... makes it increasingly dicey to buy on line without hands-on for me.

i just bought the ocean 4 string and so far ive been really happy with it. its got a great feel and sounds fantastic. i dont know where you got 750 dollars from i only paid 600 for mine. i love it, i dont think ill ever need a new bass

Hey, I just snagged one of these (TB75) from a guy on Craigslist for $425! :D Its the 5-string version in charcoal grey.

After comparing my current Ibanez SR505 and the Ocean I think I'll be keeping the Ocean and selling the Ibanez. Here's why:

1. I love the neck through construction.
2. I like the Hip-Shot tuner design better than the Grover style.
3. The Ocean has a brass nut instead of plastic.
4. The electronics are both Bartolini MK-1 but the Ocean has the EQ bypass switch.
5. Despite the electronics being exactly the same, I prefer the sound of the Ocean. It sounds less "nasal" that the SR505.
6. I'm finding that the finish on the SR505 mahogany body is very susceptible to discoloring.

hi i just got an ocean 4 string but i seem to have a diffrent head stock then other people. any one have one like mine.

SO, is this thread dead??? I got my Laguna Ocean 6 months ago and have returned it twice for minor issues, recieving a brand new one each time. It's a great sounding bass and a great deal. But i have just noticed that they have already been discontinued after less than 2 years on the market. What does this say? I'm not sure. I have yet to find any negative reviews of this bass, But I posted a kind of negative review of it on GC's website and it never showed up n the site. Maybe they filter those things. All-in-All, I wish I had gotten something else, I waited too long past the 30-day return policy. I'll keep it forever though, cuz I"m sure the resale value is horrible.

I played three of the four string fretlesses. One of them was set up beautifully. Ton of tone and a viable slap bass as well. But it felt like it was only worth half the price they wanted. I never bought it because while it had tone and playability for days it felt like it would never hold up as a professional workhorse.

I think the downfall with these basses is that the name just didn't get out. It would have been great to see a review of one of these basses in one of the bass magazines. I was just messing around with the fretted four string again yesterday at GC. These basses are just amazing for the money. Maybe they will become sought after many years down the road. Maybe by myself at some point. lol
