Ocean Basses?

I tried a bass with the name "Ocean on the headstock. I was very impressed for the price. at $750 she sounded and played alot nicer than some of the known brands. but, ive nvr heard of this company before in my life. Anyone got any experience here?

i think they are some new company, on my last visit to guitar center, the guy on the floor said "we got this shipment of this new brand" or something like that

I posted a thread here and posed the same question. I ended up buying a black 4-strg last weekend. I played one gig so far with it and was impressed. I thought it sounded great and was easy to play. It has great electronics and a smooth neck. I feel more comfortable playing on stage with a bass knowing that I spent under $1000 and sounds good rather than playing a $3000 custom bass and being easy on it. Hopefully i will not have any problems with it down the road. I don't know anyone who has one so just have to see for myself.

I just bought one of these Ocean 5-strings today at a GC in St Louis, this morning actually - I don't have time to elaborate other than - WOW! :eek: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: Been playing it literally all day...can't say how amazed I am with it. I'm off for a gig right now (with the Ocean bass of course)...I'll post pics, short review, etc., in a couple of days - ASAP cause I know there's a lot of interest in these and not too much information or many here on TB that have one or had the opportunity to try one. I think these will be very popular once they settle into the market a little longer. :hyper:

Bring yourself and your Ocean 5 to the STL GTG in Edwardsville at Mojo's Music on July 21. I would love to check one out mylsef just a little bit more.

I was also pretty curious about these Ocean basses. I saw a few at my local GC a few weeks back, but didn't get a chance to play it. The one I looked at had Bart MK-1 pups, hipshot tuners, hipshot knobs, and a hipshot bridge. Seemed to have pretty solid construction as well, it looked like a pretty killer bass for the price.

I looked at one @ GC today. I was told it's a top of the line Schecter brand. it was really nice looking and loaded with two Bartolini soapbars. As soon as I plugged in, all I got was buzzing so I really didn't get a chance to evaluate it fully. The 5ver was no better.

The woods, construction, fit and finish were acceptable with nothing negative really standing out. The control knobs were metal with rubber o-rings for grip. The o-rings kept slipping off the knobs so that was a bad idea. Because of the noisy electronics, I put it back on the stand and didn't fiddle with it hence the horrible review.

I actually played a spalted Traben Array NT that I was actually pretty impressed with tonally and the way it balanced. It was a bit small bodied than I liked, but it played well.

Really cool basses. They're a GC exclusive (like Markbass). I think they're all under $800, and there are... 3? models.

The knobs are platinum. ;)

Fun basses and great for the money, IMO. I sat and played a fretless for a while one day and really enjoyed it.

Did you have any electronics hum problem on the ones you played?

Traben's are the ones with the huge novelty (good word choice) bridges, yes? I liked playing them as well, and I liked the bodies, but the bridge's are just ridiculous. Why not have this as an option? It ruined the bass for me, its the reason I didn't consider buying a Traben. Having something so extreme as a standard with all their basses just seems stupid to me ( from a business standpoint). :(

i played an ocean at GC the other day and had to go back again the next day to play it again! i really liked it a lot. i am scheming a way to get a cort a4 or an ocean soon.

ocean basses are made by Cort's people from what i have heard. if you compare the ocean tb70 to a cort artisan a4 they are the same except for body carving and headstock. the cort looks to have slimmer nut width in the pics but it's hard to say.
