I've done time with the Boss OC-3 and the MXR BOD between 2007 and 2014. Nothing bad about either. I didn't know how to use them appropriately/musically in the things I was doing so I let them both go.

I got the EBS Octabass about the time I FINALLY figured out how to make an octave useful/versatile. It's now regularly on the board and I love it. I'd probably feel that way about the BOD if I still had it.

This thread has amplified my interest in the Aguilar (it would fit with my TLC and Agro nicely). I'm also seriously ready to pull the trigger on an OC-5 thanks to this thread.

It depends what tone you’re going for. I’m a huge fan of the OC-2 and it’s clones, or really the pedals that took that tone and improved the tracking performance and output levels. 3Leaf is top notch. COG is very nice. I’ve heard great things about the OC-5.

But at the end of the day that’s the tone I like and you might think differently. Lots of great online demos! Michael League and Janek Gwizdala do a few comparisons, as do Juan Aldrete and many others.

For several years I made do with this, a builtin analog octave down. Tracked really well and a simple one knob control. Problem was there was no foot switch.

was about to get the EBS pedal when this came up at a good price. It does way more than an octave and is perfect for my current project.

Joining the chorus praising the OC-5, it's terrific. Wouldn't mind picking up a Octabvre, but I don't really play out enough to justify spending the scratch on another octave pedal when the OC-5 does what I need.

I'm in the market for an octave pedal. MXR seems like they have all their pedals down pat but I'm also looking at Aguilar's analog octamizer.. haven't heard one in person but it seems like it might be the most organic of them all.
Octaves are kind of funky. In some ways they are similar to fuzz pedals in that some play nicer with my basses than others. So I recommend trying a few with your own basses. I have the mxr bass octave deluxe right now. Only thing I’ve really considered replacing it with is the source audio c4 because the c4 being a synth pedal does octave and a lot of other stuff.

EBS is my fave octave for bass.

unlike perhaps 98% of other respondents, I am not merely listing the pedal I own. I don’t own an EBS, and there are a slew of competitors that are likely just as wonderful. But I’ve played it a number of times, and it is the octave I hear in my mind’s ear.

+1 on the MXR Vintage Bass
+1 on the EBS Octabass
+1 on the 3Leaf Octabvre Mk III

All are excellent analog octavers. The EBS is when you want a simple and excellent tracking octaver. The MXR is an inexpensive and small OC-2 clone. The 3Leaf has the most options (including a switch for octave only).

For polyphonic octavers (and for octave up), I like the Digitech Bass Whammy the best (if you can afford the real estate on your pedalboard). It sounds more natural to me over the Pog I/II.
