octave pedals?

So my bass player is getting a new rig, per your guys recommendations he's getting himself a Carvin B2000 but this means he's gonna be losing his Behr's octave down feature.

Do you guys have any recommendations for an octave down pedal for him? Im gonna let him borrow my spare Dano Chili Dog for now, but im not entirely sure if that the best option for him.

In no order:

Aguilar Octamizer
MXR Bass Octave Deluxe
EHX Micro Pog
Boss OC-3

The Aguilar gets a lot of good press around but I've never used it.
I owned the MXR and while it had a great tone it wasn't very good at tracking anything on the G or E string and it was very glitchy when it came to dead spots and string buzz.
I've played the Micro Pog a few times and the thing is spot on with tracking and can even do an octave up, but the tone is very clean and digital and, to me at least, leaves a lot to be desired.
I recently acquired the Boss and I personally love it. It's got a synthy tone that you can add grit to and it also has a polyphonic feature.

i had (two) Boss OC-2 pedals... and honestly... having TWO octaves down was useless. i was totally unhappy with them after i got them (one was given to me, one was in lieu of money)
so i sold them in favor of a MicroPog. (though any of the pogs probably would've been fine) and having the octave UP and the octave down made a world of difference.

i LOVE the sound that i get through it, and the tracking seems to be pretty on.
the only down side is that the two octaves that it gives you DO sound a little digital...but if you don't mind that (which, personally, i don't) then it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

At one point I had two OC-2s (so I could leave one with just OCT-1 soloed and the other with the Direct level up too) and I loved them. I sold one in the end but I'm thinking of buying another because I could really use two of them again.

I bought a Micro POG a couple of weeks ago and I don't like it. I was intending to use the octave up for doubling reggae bass parts to get that old Studio One sound but it sounds too warbly and naff to do that.

Thanks for the replies so far, ill pass them along. I should mention that he plays about as deep as one can go without downtuning (Eb-0, flatwounds, felt pick etc.) so hes not particularly looking for lots more bass as he likes the boomy growl sorta octave sound.

I would like to try one of those one day. Never seen one in the flesh though.

yeah ive never seen one other than mine now that i think about it...they are incredible tho. it was my first dedicated Octaver, and i have gotten others along the way, but none of them come close to that one. great tracking, durable, distinctive look, and super cool sound.

My Digitech Bass Synth Wah has octave down, and octave down with filter/wah.

It tracks really well (better than the Boss I had), built like a tank, fairly cheap, and has the bonus of other synth sounds (which I have used maybe once).

I bought it on the advice of TB'ers in a thread several years ago. Thanks again to TB.
