Mxr octave deluxe! got it for christmas and recently paired it hand in hand with my big muff and it sounds great!! My friend also recently got the OC-2. Its sounds good with the built in fuzz but not much too say about it yet

I voted for the EBS because I have it and it sounds great, better than any other octave I've heard...

But that being said MXR makes some great pedals for not that much $$$. I would venture to guess that the MXR would kick major butt, and the dry mix knob would be a great asset. Actually, now that I think of it, the EBS still retains the original note, as it has a knob for the normal note level, so I'm sticking with the EBS as the tone monster...but if I were you, I'd give both the MXR and EBS a listen. Probably both are great and not much of a difference other than price. Guitar Center has a used MXR on their site right now for $79.99...might be a good deal!

I've got an OC-2 as well. It's great for what I do with it.

I'm looking at adding another octave though, and so far I think the Octamizer is where it's at. I played with the MXR at GC over the weekend, and I liked it quite a bit but it was just missing something for me.

EBS-I think this is the best one if you're looking for a more subtle octave sound-it seems to have very little character on its own, so it blends in with your clean sound really well. Good for making your bass simply get that extra "oomph".

This is the exact reason I have one on my board currently. I traded my MXR (it didn't track as well as the EBS), and returned the OC-3 (it just wasn't for me...though I really wanted it to be). No experience with the Aguilar.

Also, I play fretless about 95% of the time, and the EBS really worked the best (for me) with the sound I was hearing in my head.

You haven't mentioned the POG II, just the micro POG. The POG II is what I use. Extremely versatile although probably more expensive than some other choices. Anything from simple octaving to massive organ sounds. It's got functions beyond just picking your octaves up and down.

I had the EBS one, and I am a very big fan of EBS pedals (I have at least 6 of them), but for octaves I haven't found anything to beat the POG II. I have looked at the Fishman Fission but it's gotten some dicey reviews on here.

It takes up too much real estate on my board, otherwise I would have definitely considered it.

not the greatest pic, but here's my board:

plenty of room for the POG II as well as the Xotic X-Blender which I use to mix all the effects signals with the dry signal. As you can see, I do like EBS pedals. :bassist:

With octave pedals YMMV is the name of the game. The bass you use, the strings, and more than anything your technique have MASSIVE influence on how well one unit tracks over another. I tried out both the Aguilar Octomizer and the MXR BOD over the last several weeks at Premier Bass Guitar, and found that with some basses the Aguilar tracked lower than the MXR, switch basses and the MXR tracked lower...

This is the most important post of all the replies so far (no offense intended otherwise, everyone has their thing), but truly, each of the octave pedals will act differently based upon all of the variables mentioned above.
I personally had an octave pedal before I even owned a pedal tuner, and if there was ever just one effect I would never be without it would be this one.
I have tried darn near every bass octaver that has come to market in the last couple decades, and the OC-2 and now the OC-3 are the ones I always come back to. Some people think they're crap, but they work the best for me with regard to my most commonly used basses+strings, but most importantly the way my fingers hit those strings.
You've just gotta try some different ones and find what best works for you. One more thing, if you plan to use the octave pedal in combination w/ any other effects, also be prepared to test the pedal(s) at different points in your chain before you settle on one, as some pedals don't play nice with other ones sometimes.
With regard to the money aspect, spend a few moments online to find the retailers that offer free shipping if you want to try certain pedals that aren't available to you locally (most big music houses offer free freight for purchases over $100, and any decent octave pedal will almost certainly cost you that much, if you buy new anyway); at least that way you may only have to pay return shipping.

OC-2 is the only one I have tried. I haven't been disappointed with it at all. It gets the most use out of all of the pedals on my board. My only gripe is I wish I could play chords or play legato with it... but I usually do not need that in my band, only when I'm messing around by myself.

My buddy recently got the MXR BOD and he likes it a lot.

I am in the market for an octave pedal and I have pretty much rounded it down to 4. The MXR BOD, the Boss OC-3, the EHX Micro POG, and the EBS one(can't think of the name right now). I have chose these basically because they are fairly cheap and because I don't have the scratch for a boutique pedal. What would you recommend if you had to pick one of these and price was a factor?

No EHX Octave Multiplexer???? I've tried everything I could, even the EBS, and got an Octave multiplexer because it has lots of character. If you're looking for the exact replica of your bass an octave lower, don't bother, but if you seek that fat and warm yet synthy low end octave, then the Octave Multiplexer is your thing. At least give it a shot (and fiddle around with the knobs, you can adjust the sound alot with that pedal).

I got rid of this pedal because of the tracking on it, it disappointed me and it only seemed to work well with the sub switch on which was annoying because with it off it ruled! But it just didn't cut it in my books
