Odd Frets on an AllParts Neck...

Made by a friend and passed along to me. It looks like the frets are made of different pieces and types of fret wire.
Anyone seen this before?

Are you talking about the clear finish that hasn't been completely removed on some of those frets? If so, you can take a razor to cut along the edge of each side of the fret, then polish w/ steel wool. Best to tape off the fretboard before the steel wool.

It appears the faux-gold plating is wearing off. Correction: I also read that the final lacquer spray results in the gold sheen and eventually wears off.

Yeah, it looks like the neck has an ambered clear coat to give it an aged lacquer look. With a maple fretboard the clear just gets sprayed on the entire neck and it wasn’t removed from the frets. A good clean and polish on the frets should take care of it. As mentioned above it wouldn’t be a bad idea to carefully score along the base of each fret first. That might be easier to do with an Xacto knife than a razor blade.

Seen on many a Fender. They paint the frets, that paint wears off.
I typically do my best to score the painted fret area as best I can, chip/scrape off the finish on the metal, do a fine polish on the frets... then it looks great.

Well. Yeah you guys are right. Feel a little silly here, but yeah. I gave it a scrape with my thumbnail and yup, it scraped away.

After looking at the photos it's pretty easy to see the answer to the post. This kind of oversight is possible when you're too busy, spend too much time in fight or flight mode, and need sleep. Lol...
But if I hadn't posted, I wouldn't have known.
