I think you might have accidentally subtracted 40 years off of that example.
To make sure I understand your thought process....you go to two different low level employees, get the same reply (which is nothing more than stating of company policy), but you want to go back and try a third time?
I'd guess you're going to get the same response. Were it me, I might be a bit patient.......my guess is that the classifieds here will be flooded with them in the coming months.
Not my experience here. Both GCs in the Nashville area tend to be on the high end of used gear prices. You usually have to get a manager and negotiate hard to get a reasonable price.
A pawn hold is a legal requirement in some places. They put it on the floor because they don't have endless warehouse space and so they can take offers. GC doesn't negotiate much anymore. Cost is important. If they accidentally put too much money into it to buy it, they aren't going to budge. They tried to sell a used Warwick Corvette $$ NT that had the electronics gutted out of it and they wanted $1600 for it. They wouldn't move on the price. So there it sat.

Not worth the BS ! I would just order it new or at the very least I wouldn't buy it at that particular GC!

The crazy part is that at the end of the day those Sire basses play and feel like they're worth way more than even the $600.
Rarely does Guitar Center have any deals. The Bass sections look like a fire sale, with the cheapest gear being pushed with an occasional nice Bass or Amp on clearance. My local store looks like they could cut it in half and rent out the other half and still have room for more display gear. All the good employees are gone, no negotiations anymore. I now buy from other dealers (online or local). GC will be gone in a year. Just need to use my Gift cards 1st.
I keep hearing that. The one I've laid hands on here definitely owned its origins as a cheaply made production bass....
I've had a similar experience but it was with a used HAZ Mutron that was priced higher than retail. I assume they thought it was a vintage Mutron. I pointed out all this to the employees but they would not change the price.
First of all, love guitar center. I've never had an issue and am kind of annoyed to see people always complaining about them.
Secondly, keep in mind that the kids of this generation thrive on instant gratification. "Why pay 499 to have the bass new in a few weeks when you can have it right now, slightly used, for the same price?" This bass will be gone at full price as soon as the hold is lifted.

Honestly, outside of TB and hard core Miller fans, no one seems to have any inkling about this bass. It might sit....
Prolly took it in and based value on a "Marcus Miller Jazz Bass, used" which it technically IS, says so on the headstock.

We've been hearing about Guitar Centers imminent demise for ten years. They don't negotiate any longer. I imagine used gear is a big profit center for them.
Sure.....they can basically double their money.
They will negotiate....you just have to wait and then deal with the right person.
Learned about lighter gauge strings years ago for ameliorating dead spots. That's why my go-to set is .040-.100 for both flats and rounds. A fat)finger can help too. On Fender-style headstocks put it at three o'clock on the clock face, as near the nut as you can get.
GC used pricing seems to be all over the map, and varies wildly from store to store. I look through GC' s used listing pretty often, and its often the same stores that have basses listed at either extremely good or totally bonkers high prices. GC's used site is pretty useful, but consistent it ain't.
Speaking of bizaro high prices, here's a Carvin SB400 they're trying to sell for 1499.99. Looks like it has a flamed top, but there's no way it cost that much new. That thing's going to sit there and collect dust until they drop the price $500 or so.

You can have Carvin build you a new JB4 (their replacement for the discontinued SB4000) with a similar configuration for $1250. Maybe there are several $100 bills stuffed into the control cavity that they're not mentioning?
