Ever wonder where the FIRST Lakland Duck Dunn bass was ...

Well it's right here in Memphis where it should be. Tonight I was at BB Kings Place on Beale st. with my good friend Kelly McDonald with the Cory Osborn band ... I was actually there to do a photo shoot of Kelly using my cabs at BBs, and he pulled out the blue Lakland and was telling me the story on it, it's the first one Dan made for Duck ...

:smug: ... Kelly sounded great, the bass sounded great, the cabs sounded great!

I'm going to visit Memphis in late April .
Are there any good Lakland dealers there ?

I never got any basses from the Memphis location because I was an endorsee with Lakland for 5 yrs. They were all either shipped directly to my house from Dan himself or I was in Chicago and picked them up!

However,Martin Music is THE place to get a Lakland bass! Ask for Eric Martin or Will Lowrimore and be sure to tell them I sent you.My name is Jackie Clark. If you happen to be in town for a day or two, come check us out at BB King's Tues,Thurs,Fri or Sat nights! We have a pretty decent band.

Peace,

JC

You have the largest collection of Laklands I have seen yet!!!! All fantastic basses!!!

Please PM NUBS for your LOG number!!!

Doug

Hey Doug, thanks man...I endorsed Lakland basses for 5 yrs. Some of the best basses I've ever owned.

I'm relatively dumb to all the clubs and how to join...explain please...I'd be more than happy to become a part of the family! :-) :-)

I did not PM Nubs but I'm covered, I'm #221, cool number. And thanks for the info of the descript on the differences of the JO and DJ. I like the looks of the DJ5 but would like to the hear/play the 2 basses to see what they offer sound wise. Like I said I got a modified electron blue, '07 MIM Jazz 5 coming in a trade and I hope that will hold me. Quick story: I go to band practice with a different bass before a gig thinking Im gonna use this one at the gig this time but everytime, come gig day after loading amp/cabs/gigbag, I go to my back bedroom and always grab my 55-02D, it feels so right in my hands, it just gives me confidence and I know I play better with it.

Now, I'd really like to add a P-bass 5er to the herd, Im thinking the new Am Standard but am I reading right that Lakland may be putting out a BG P-5? If so should I wait for that? Lovin' Laklands!

My second Dduck Dunn just arrived.
Now, i dont have my first one here at work but this new one seems a different shade and has no sparkle.
on this new one the body seems to be the same colour as the headstock. A more wine or darker red. I like this new colour but had got used to the sparkle red.
also this arrived in the same condition as the first. Im now guessing they leave the factory like this and they aren't used a is thought the first one was.A few smudges and marks on the body and the same piece of plastic covering missing of the PG near the controls. The marks will wipe off so im not to bothered about this. A very few minor black specks in the finish but again, nothing to worry about.
Set up seems to be the same, ie good.
this new one is a 2007, the first was a 2006.
Just have to decide what one to keep now. If i can ill get a pic of the two together tonight.
Why cant these things ever be easy?

EDIT: I have just noticed that it does indeed have the sparkle finish but as the colour is slightly darker its just not something as much.

EDIT2: After plugging it in to play i have found the fret buzz to be worse than my first one. lots of fret buzz on the E string even though both bass's seem to be set up the same. Think in going to keep the first one if i cant sort it out.

Ok guys, I'd like in. Just received this.

Can't understand why he sold it. Its great. I also have a Cirrus and a Mike Lull MV5. I was planning on keeping the Cirrus, but this bass is so great I don't think I'll touch the Cirrus again.

I must be going blind. Is there a Lakland in that link? I can only see the Fenders.
Not heard of a Fender Duck Dunn before. Is that a limited edition?

I had once once. Don't know why I didn't keep it. I traded it to this guy straight for a 4 string scheff (this was before they stopped making the 5 string). This thing "killed" with TI Flats on it. Hopefully, you will find one someday. I hope this picture does not hurt you too bad.:D This is the guy that had it after me. The sad thing about the whole situation is I bought it brand new from Bass Central for $799. Crazy good price!!!! What was I thinking letting it go.
