Pathetic. Up 3-0 to start the 3rd. Atlanta comes to 3-2 before Leino completes his hat trick for another 2-goal cushion. Then they lose in OT. What an epic collapse...
Terrible call though on the interference against Versteeg. The Thrasher changed his mind/direction at the last second and ran right into Versteeg. Led to the tying goal.

I wasn't happy with that call either but it is what it is,...FWIW the Thrashers got the their third goal of the game on the ensuing powerplay,...then Versteeg turned the puck over right on top of Bobs from the corner on the tying goal in the dying seconds of the game. Obviously playing Versteeg in clutch moments is a bad idea. This is the second sloppy turn over that has led to a goal.
This sucks that Leino's teammates couldn't get the win for him on his first Career HT.

Preds win 4-2. Solid victory. There was a great fight tonight too.

Good on the Preds. I'd like to see them make the playoffs again. Wings won two in a row this weekend against bottom dwellers. They tried to lose to the Oilers and didn't show up until the last 5 minutes, plus Howard gave up a stinker early.
The STL game had an ugly moment near the end where Backes' skate caught Howard in the mask (he was pushed and while I definitely consider Backes a douche, the skate to the face wasn't intentional IMHO). STL had three good goals, Howie had no chance on the last two and not much of one on the first. The Wings responded well though, with two pairs of goals in short intervals (16 seconds and 80 seconds). The GWG by Datsyuk at 13:13 of the third to bring his +/- to 13 (is that an omen for number 13 of the Wings?) was absolutely sick. Catch the highlights on TSN or YouTube (sorry no linkage here since I'm on an iPod). What a play.

Also, got to watch Vancouver vs Calgary today. Calgary jumped on them early but the Canucks came back. Another great game.

Sabres won this afternoon, in honor of #7.
It's very sad here in Buffalo, Rick Martin was very well liked in town. And just a few weeks ago he was along side new owner Terry Pegula bringing in a new era of Sabres Hockey, hopefully one that resembles the perennial playoff Sabres of old. Our new owner has brought a lot of enthusiam to the team and was bringing the old alumni back into the fold, if for nothing else than to honor the tradition that seems to have died w/ the past 2 regimes.
RIP Rick Martin. Hope you get to enjoy the re-birth of a franchise from above.
Huge Caps fan here! Great win over Chicago today, and a nice continuation of our win streak. Now I'm just hoping that Philly continues to be up-and-down, and maybe we can take over first seed in the East. Of course, being #1 in the East didn't buy us anything last year....
What the thunder? The Pens scored five goals in a regulation game. It must have been a juiced puck.

Yeah, but that was against Edmonton, who's the worst team in the league. In the Caps current 8-game winning streak, we've only won one of those games by more than 1 goal, and it was against Edmonton (5-0).
In other news, Sidney Crosby skated in pads for the first time since the concussion. Could he (finally) be preparing to return?
Yes, Edmonton is sorry. But for the Pens to score five goals in a regulation game against anyone is a mighty feat this season.

OK, I'm about done with this crap about Crosby and his concussion. He goes out and skates today, then says how it's still "early on", and the fact that he skated is no indication he is any better and it's totally possible he may have symptoms again tomorrow. Then, he says there is "No real plan going forward".
Get a plan together and move forward, or go ahead and retire.

As a Caps fan (and, necessarily, a Pens hater), I'll keep my normal anti-Crosby rhetoric to myself. But seriously, in all objectivity, how long does it take to come back from a concussion? I've never had one, so I have no first-hand experience. Furthermore, I'm not Sidney Crosby, so I have no idea what he experiences on a day to day basis. But it seems like virtually every other sufferer of concussions (in football, hockey, and baseball) come back in a matter of 1-2 weeks.
Again, as a registered Pens hater, I'm used to calling Crosby soft (ignoring, of course, the fact that he's the best all-around player in the league). I guess I'm wondering aloud what I secretly have always hoped: do other people think he's soft? Is he taking his sweet time coming back because he's afraid of getting hurt again? Or is he truly still hurting and incapable of playing at a level that would help his team?
Yeah, no need to drag down the discussion with the tired old anti-Crosby stuff. The regulars here gave that up a couple years ago.

On a more serious note, concussions are a tricky thing to deal with. He could still be having migraines or nausea/vertigo, and those would only be made worse or brought on by strenuous exercise.
I had a mild concussion, I'm not sure what grade it was, and went on to wrestle the next day. It was a terrible idea, and I regretted it all day.
After that tournament I was out for almost a month and a half. I tried to practice when I felt like it, but I was just off for a while. and I still get headaches from it.

My dislike of Crosby goes without saying, but I also have a lot of respect for his talent and skill, and I also admit that my dislike is in part due to the overhyping. That said, he needs to be 100% before he returns. I sincerely hope that he doesn't end up as concussion prone as the Lindros brothers. It would be a shame if his career is cut short.
I've never had a concussion, but a friend of mine in high school got one after smacking his head on the diving board doing an inward 1 1/2 somersault. He wasn't ever able to go back to diving (a shame since he'd likely have gotten a scholarship) and wasn't close to being normal for over three months in regards to normal activity. He couldn't read or stand bright light for most of that time. If Crosby has those sort of symptoms he needs to take as much time as he needs. By the way, my true anecdote in no way was a comment about any past on-ice behavior by Crosby, just an example of how none of us can fairly judge what he's going through. I still think the Hedman hit is what messed him up, but the Winter Classic accidental contact from Steckel really made him vulnerable if it wasn't a mild concussion in and of itself.
