i think its more year to year. I think the West is "faster" this year, but i don't know if that necessarily makes them better.

Do you guys remember all the talk from Vegas about getting an NHL team? What if Phx moved to Winnipeg and ATL moved to Vegas?


edit: actually, if vegas did get the thrashers, i think the restructuring would make the most sense if Det stayed in the central, moving the preds to the se. you could have the rest of the west look like this:

The 4th vertebrae broken and a major concussion.

When a guy will die ( 'cause apparently , it will happen) , they will say it's an unfortunate accident.

In International Hockey , the guy would have been suspended for the rest of the season.
The US market NEEDS that type of "violent" hockey to get market shares. That hit probably had the "hit" on youtube , hockey related.
That's what interest the league , not the safety of the players.

And BTW , I'm not a Habs fan , I'm a hockey fan.

I'd like to see perhaps a redesign of the glass in that area. That said I don't know what they can do to fix the dangerous spots except to remove them all together but there are still the spots at either end of the bench area. You can't put glass in front of the benches because that won't allow easy access for line changes. Perhaps they can make it out of a more forgiving material,...one that breaks but not into 1 million tiny shards of glass that could potentially cut players and spectators.

I guess it's fortunate that this doesn't happen more often. I like the physical aspect of the game. But this game happens at such a high speed that you can't really expect a grunt like Chara to be completely aware of his surroundings while finishing a check. Certainly a player with a higher hockey IQ would have let up on Pach or spun him away from the stanchion but not everyone is on that level.

Perhaps some good will come of this unfortunate event,...but admittedly I don't have the answers.

While the Pens enjoy another long break between games ( ), I'll get to entertain myself with some other games this week.

Vancouver at San Jose is going to be a good one. I sure wish I was there, or in Phoenix tonight for the game against Calgary. I'll take Buffalo and Boston for the early game since I'm bored of Toronto and Philly.

NHL Network said that they've been working on a better padding system for that spot where the glass starts. One problem is that it is apparently only a couple teams targeted to try it out. The announcers were saying they need to have an agreement for all arenas to use it. They didn't really show it, so I'm not sure how effective it would be.

On another topic, Pronger is out for the Flyers against the Leafs tonight. Can't remember whether they said upper or lower body injury.

Sometimes I feel the (admittedly dumb) desire to read the comments after an article. I found this one kinda funny: "How about the cops investigate the Habs for fraud; for pretending they are a real hockey team".

Don't tell Mike, but Powe scored from behind the goal line tonight. Flyers up 3-1 on the Leafs right now. Leafs lone goal went in off Grabovski's face shield!

Preds shut out the Wild (Rinne's 6th). I would say how bad of a butt-kicking the Wild got, but I feel like the score does a pretty good job of showing it.

I saw a first for me just now, in the VAN/SJS game. One of the Canucks just got a two minute penalty for embellishing. I don't realize you could get a penalty for that. Cool.
