To keep this non-political, I will say that Thomas, for the sake of his teammates and organization, should have made the trip to the White House. By not doing so, he deflected some of the spotlight that should be on the team onto himself. It is, of course, his right to do that. I agree with the way the Bruins have handled it - by not suspending him and letting it blow over.

I'm a life long Bruins fan (40+ years) and disappointed that Tim Thomas decided that being a member of the Bruins team starts and ends at the ice rink entrance. He should have been with his teammates and not put himself above them. He was being selfish. That said, I'm still a Bruins fan and agree with the Bruins Team deciding to put the issue behind them and move on.

He is a high profile NHL player, and a recognizable house name (if there is such a thing in the NHL) being in the Discover card commercials, etc. There are many other venues he can take to express his political opinion. Instead he drew a lot of negative attention to himself and his team and refused to partake in an age old team tradition.

Although next week everyone will have forgotten about it and none of it will matter.

Disagree, as a Bruins fan since 1973. I don't think it was his intention to be "selfish" at all, the media will promote that. It is pomp and circumstance, not Game 7. He is a soft spoken, simple man who seems to stay away from the spotlight in general. Who cares if the teammates don't? You really think he is a bad teammate after all his dedication and hard work over his long, uphill career - this is purely political and his own core belief; a belief shared by many in this country.

Where was the outrage when James Harrison declined Bush's invite, or the NASCAR drivers, Rasheed Wallace, etc, etc...?

Tim claimed it was non-political, but it (to me anyways) obviously was. If you don't like the President, at least go for your teammates and a few cocktails. I think he would've been better off by not posting on twitter, and just letting it blow over. Of course, if he didn't wear Tea Party logos on his mask and wasn't very outspoken politically, then he wouldn't have had to worry about people taking offense to him missing the trip either.

And how about that Ovi fella sitting out of the Allstar game in protest of a suspension?

Man it must be "Be a selfish NHL player" day or something..

Edit: I will applaud Tim on one thing: Not blowing up twitter like some sports stars do. I realize that he did display some self control, and that's much better than what we get on a regular basis.

Tim Thomas=4th Dixie Chick. Because none of them girls can keep thier mouths shut about politics. No one cares what they think about it and no one cares what he thinks either. I for one am happy he did it, hopefully this will shake up the Bs so they will start losing games. He is now as classy as Kayne West. Both speaking about thier politics in a none political forum and looking like a joke. "He should have said "Obama hates white people", that would have at least been funny.

The Caps beat up on Boston, even with their two best players out of the game. I expected Boston to win. NESN showed Thomas chilling on the bench a few times, he looked really uncomfortable. The Bruins looked slow for stretches of the game.

How about the Ducks on a little tear? 8-1-1 in the last 10, including five in a row going into tonight. Instead of 22 points out, it's only 11 now. This would be a great turnaround if they can keep it up.

Hahaha.....Subban is getting lit up by his coaches. Subban seems to think it's no big deal. It feels like his star is about to burn out.
