No, but there is obviously something else going on that is extremely disturbing to him.
Is it noble, or is he saying, "fine, suspend me. I won't go play in the all-star game then". What was his statement?
Really need to get my new band to change practice to days that aren't Tuesday =P Although watching the Pens is a lot easier now that I'm back in the burgh!

I have not seen the Ovechkin hit yet, but will do so now. Is it me or are there a lot of suspensions this year thus far? I am disappointed in Marchand (dummy) and Ference. See - I am not a shameless "Homer"!

Seems like a lot of suspensions this year, but they made the rules clear and are sticking to their guns. It seems like illegal hits to small name players during games that are not publicly televised are still generally ignored, but I think overall they have not done too bad of a job this year.
The Ference hit was dumb, but I can see how that can happen "accidentally" in the high speed game of hockey. I realize this is coming from a Pens fan and I won't attempt to downplay Matt Cooke's dirty past, but I think Marchand is one of the dirtiest players in the league. Really tired of his **** this year. The Salo hit was pretty awful but no one said anything about his slew foot on Niskanen, which I think was one of the dirtiest plays of the year.
The trouble is, he's a big name in the league & the all-star game is supposed to be a showcase of sorts (a poor one, in my opinion, but whatever). Him bowing out seems less to me as respect for the game than it does a temper tantrum. But I could be wrong, he may truly feel that he's honoring the suspension.

Two words, Graham James. Didn't want to have to bring that up but since canadians are so perfect and it's us americans messing things up I felt the need to remind you that you have dirt to. So glass houses,stones, anyways my point was that the nhl is better than this.
I still prefer the NHL to any other sports league. Ovechkin may be punking out the NHL here, but if that is his worst offense, I'm cool with that.
That being said, Ovechkin is now on my crap list with Gillies from the Islanders and Powe with whoever picked him up these days.

You are correct that no one supporting either side commented on the Marchant slew-foot when it happened. I suspect partly because that was a dog-bites-man type of story and Marchand was fined $2,500. The bigger news that game was the hit on Crosby by Kunitz. Coach Claude Julien spoke to Marchand and on camera making it clear that slew-footing was not acceptable.
Marchand has been pretty clean since coming back from the 5-game suspension (it is only been 2 or 3 games, but it is a start
. He is certainly not going to make anyone's list of favorite players except for us B's fans, but I am holding out hope that no one will be calling him a dirty player in the second half of the year.
The funny thing about all the talk with the Kunitz/Crosby collision was that wasn't even what aggravated his symptoms. It was the elbow he caught from Krejci.
As a Pens fan speaking to a Bruins fan I feel it necessary to point out here that I am not insinuating that Krejci's elbow hitting Crosby was illegal or intentional. Just unfortunate for Crosby =P

Marchand is doing a good job taking over Matt Cookes role as dirtiest player in the NHL, but I think Subban is giving Marchand a run for his money.
