Wings win # 20 in a row at home over the Flyers 4-3. This is the best Wings team I've seen in a while. And considering how hot they are at home, home ice could be a nice plus come playoff time.

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings equaled an NHL record with their 20th straight win at home, beating the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 Sunday night on the strength of Johan Franzen's tiebreaking goal early in the third period.

The league mark was set by the Boston Bruins during the 1929-30 season and matched by Philadelphia in 1976. Detroit can break the record with a win Tuesday night over the Dallas Stars at Joe Louis Arena.

Another record falls tonight, very fitting for a History making team.

DETROIT (AP) -- Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom has played in his 1,550th game, the most by an NHL player who spent his entire career with one team.

I watched the NHL36 episode on Lidstrom last night. Great stuff. A very big hole will open in Detroit and the NHL when he retires.

During the episode, they addressed the grind of being a pro athlete. They interviewed Babcock, and for that subject he commeneted hos Lidstrom has found a way to make the boring and mundane parts of being a pro athlete fun.

Too bad this is not the national game on NBCSports.

Rangers are up 2-0 with a pretty power play goal and an ugly (but effective) throw it at the goal and hope it bounces off a very tall d-man into the net with 10 seconds left in the period goal.

One of the best teams with a lead playing one of the best teams when down a goal or two makes for another 40 minutes of exciting hockey.

The Bruins are playing hard so sooner or later the puck will find the back of the net.

I'm pretty much ready to turn the lights out on the Caps' season. Just complete inability to execute. Yeah, they're still mathematically in the playoff hunt, but it doesn't take a high hockey IQ to see that if they do manage to get in, they won't be competitive against the upper crust of the league. The only really interesting thing is whether or not GM George McPhee pulls any noteworthy trades before the deadline. Rumor has it that he's blowing up phones around the league trying to make something happen. I still think the Caps have the talent to compete with the best in the league, but for whatever reason, they got up on the wrong side of the bed for this season. I hope that McPhee can bring in some talent and, maybe more importantly, cut some dead weight in the offseason and bring a hungry, competitive team into next season.

Lord knows they deserved to notch a goal and came close a number of times, but Lundqvist maintains his shutout and now leads the league with 7.

It's always a great and grinding game against Boston. They really showed up in the last two periods but couldn't break past Lundqvist.

When Seguin got nailed by Chara's shot I was pretty nervous for him. He was writhing in pain on the bench.. when the trainer came up to him it looked like he said 'Mother F-ing Chara.'

Dubinsky also got banged up when he took a deflected puck to the face.. post-game you find out he had to get stitches on his nose and had a couple chipped teeth. "No worse for the wear" according to him, though.

Nov. 3, the last time the Wings lost a game at the Joe. The Red Wings broke a forty year old record tonight with a 3-1 win over the Dallas Stars. 21 wins in a row at home, to put that in perspective the next closest home winning streak this season is two teams with an 8 game winning streak.

42 saves on the same night Lundqvist got his 42nd career shutout. I'm no expert on the Bruins even though I've seen plenty of games this season, but they don't look right anymore. Kelly and Peverly are two guys who seem to have fallen off some. Good thing is there is time to turn it around.

A few weeks ago, I didn't give a second thought to Anaheim. Now I'm nervous as the Jonas Hiller train rolls into Pittsburgh tomorrow night. He looked really good tonight in clamping down on the Wild. The Pens have a way of wilting early when facing a solid goalie. Then again, Malkin is basically unstoppable at the moment.

No post tonight is complete without a headnod to Detroit. Impressive.

The Rangers can make a lot of teams look "not right" this year. They're playing excellent hockey. And like Timonen says, "Even if their D-men make a mistake, their goalie will bail them out". I'm paraphrasing, but that's the gist of it. Lundqvist is like a friggin' robot out there this year...

* - put in perspective, the 20 home win streaks were done in an era with games that ended in ties (no OT) and no shootout winners either.

3 by shootout, 1 in overtime.

Now there is that 35 game unbeaten streak out there....
